I'd say all this fuss with Tally will blow over when the football starts.

Derry County Board must had clearly run out of road and decided to go for Tally, after him committing so publically to Kerry. The 2 leading figures don't come out with much credit. It was becoming another 'Casement Park' saga.

Money must have been threw at Tally as Derry were in a desperate position. In a way deserting Kerry seems to be the norm now - Mickey Graham and Gormley in a club team in Tyrone. Nobody is off limits now. Offer them what they want and it'll happen.

In fairness, I'd say Tally is glad in a way as the travel to Kerry is long and arduous for 6 months of the year. It takes its toll. A short trip over the Sperrins is more appealing in the first half of the year.

What would success be?

Success in the league would be developing a style of play and a number of players that we can bring to the championship. It doesn't matter if we get relegated or not. There is very little difference between Div1 and Div2. The last two all Ireland champions have won it from Div2.

Success in the championship would be avoiding a preliminary QF and making it to the last 8 or last 4. The Ulster championship is an irrelevance at the best of times, but given the draw it's not something Derry should lose any sleep over.

To be fair if your a good manager from Fermanagh and want to achieve something of note, you would have to be willing to coach outside the county
