Same thing happened with the Division 1 league final, its not really a surprise with antrim any more.

Suppose we have no idea who the contenders are for U21?

Did these teams compete at minor (though not a great gauge) or did they miss out with the switch from U18 to U17?  From memory I think we switched in 2021 meaning they wouldn't have had a minor championship?

Usual suspects Brides and Cargin?  Wee bit early for the strong St Paul's batch coming through?

Give me some dates that suit you, as I haven't had a free weekend doing the rest of the leagues juveniles the county games and the championships.

Not really a surprise when you think before typing

Cargin have at least half a dozen (closer to 10 I imagine) senior panelists who are U21 who will be concentrating on their Ulster fixture you'd think.

Hard to believe they have those numbers on that slow, old and crafty team.

Going back years and years this age group was rotated between hurling and football at the beginning and end of the season every year.

20 years ago the hurling used to be played on Saturday late afternoon in April/May and football at the same time in October/November.
The use of some U20s (or 21's) as part of senior hurling squad hampered fixtures early in the year.
I'd imagine it's not ideal for the likes of Cargin but what odds on playing those U21's not starting senior and using the game time to benefit them.

After all they have won the big one so really an ideal scenario is to play those who are not getting football matches and keep those who are for senior games. Surely that will develop numbers and the players

Haha, that's healthy alright.

it only affects the 3 clubs who won the championships but u21s always feels to be down the pecking order of senior, intermediate, junior and minor championships.

True. That and the fact its at the end of the season with fairly poor pitches and probable crappy weather.

IIRC last year it was u19 and this year is u21 meaning a player could've missed out last year being 19 and back in the fold this year as u21. Surely that's a positive for many clubs getting lads back playing who may have wavered or just not cut it at senior level so think an acknowledgement to all clubs who voted to revert the age groups back is appropriate.

Soft pitches and cold weather hopefully won't take away from some good football. Reminds me of school football when the weather and pitches aren't great so a lot of the players will be used to it.

Last chance for a City team to make an impact this year or will they be barren of championship silverware this season?

Who won the minor this year?

Certainly Cargin if they tog out, Con Magees possibly , Aghagallon. St Paul's have been there or thereabouts at minor with Brigids last few years, have lads pushed on.

Question for all clubs is how many lads away off to college/work somewhere else and not training with group etc.

On the basis leagues don't matter no reason not to run the u21 knockout off during June/1st week of July and if lads pulled away from senior squads so be it.
