Quote from: imtommygunn on September 26, 2024, 02:15:15 PMThe thing is hate filled is what Brolly appears to be wrt Harte so there is some irony in calling out people for hate filled posts about a man who has almost strayed into hate himself. (FWIW I don't mind him that much but he has completely lost the run of himself so isn't really worth listening to any more. I would hope he claws that back at some stage but at the minute he's not worth listening to).
Yeah I don't disagree with you.. he despises Harte has done so long before he went to Derry. Hed hardly listen to his podcasts! Hatred not good for the soul...

Does Harte have a podcast?

In my opinion people take Brolly too seriously. I'd say half of his personal attacks on people were tongue in cheek - the other half impulsive rants that he has often apologised for (or at least he says he does).
He's one of those characters that gets caught up in the moment and just says what he thinks rather than trying to be politically correct. It's what I liked about him as an "analyst" on RTE. Honest opinion at that point in time.
I thought he often got football analysis right too.

I remember playing against him in a reserve game many moons ago, him and big Geoffery were a 2 man full forward line. Whole way through the game there was nothing but personal insults and slagging each other, all seemed very serious. Then when the match was over the 2 of them were full of laughs and arms around other. I think a lot of it is just bluster and his idea of having a laugh.

I don't get much time for podcasts but I did listen to the 2-parter on Israel the other week and found it insightful and heartfelt. I think he does a lot of good, or tries to.
I can listen to him ok, he can be very entertaining but is often completely over the top. Though some of the reactions to him are also completely over the top.

Quote from: From the Bunker on September 26, 2024, 03:43:45 PMBrolly is an extreme character. He was extreme as a player and as an analyst.

He has to be the center of attention. His opinion over-rides everyone else.

He is erratic and highly charged.

He has his romantic view of a True Gael.

With all the media gigs, the distractions and the present location he resides - I find it hard to believe that he works as a Barrister. Or that he has any kind of ''Normal'' job in Antrim.

I just don't get why it is neccessary to get into that... he was recently involved in the Stardust case one of the biggest injustices in Ireland in the last 50 years.. which brought the truth for families who lost loved ones. Why is it neccessary to question his professional life?

From what I can gather, he's supposed to be an excellent Barrister and his services are highly sought after.

I don't think his personal attacks on Harte can be categorised as impulsive or tongue-in-cheek. They were spiteful, pointed, and considering he essentially devoted 6-8 podcast episodes in-a-row to such attacks, quite clearly pre-meditated. One such episode culminated in him pointedly and quite sincerely terming Harte a "c**t".

His abusiveness towards Enda McNulty has also not been impulsive. It's been a long running campaign of vilification and mocking. He has a particular story he likes to tell about how he once publically humiliated McNulty in front of a large crowd at an event and took real glee in describing how upset and angry Enda was by it. I've heard him re-tell the story numerous times now and it seemingly has yet to dawn on him just how poorly it makes him come across.

I do think people take him too seriously (when he isn't attacking people)but the personal attacks he does are out of order. His obsession with hate is OTT and tbh ridiculous.

He still doesn't seem to get that.

I know Harte hasn't a podcast! That was tongue-in-cheek comment as well!

Ok fair enough. I apologise for that. Was recent posts questioning his ability as a barrister. I'm not going to go looking for them but there was. I too quickly thought that was more of the same. He talks about Stardust enquiry in recent podcasts but not everyone listens to them!' Was also recently in news he represented a high profile loyalist.

Main Street

I heard in the most recent podcast Joe referring to his past mental/emotional isuues (to 5 or so years ago)that he admitted being a bit of a bollix, obsessively anxious about peoples perceptions of him, general narcissistic traits e.g interuppting other peoples train of speech to impose his smart assy opinions, but all that is in the past, apparantly we have a much nicer Joe now.

That wasn't really the point. You should add context to your post. It was about how childhood trauma effects people. They referenced a book whereby alot of successful people have suffered childhood trauma and that trauma has driven them. Whatever they did or who ever they met, it was performance, they were never themselves, never happy in their skin. Your post was how he described how he felt for years. Following psychotherapy sessions over a prolonged period of time he felt he eventually came to terms with himself and is a more more relax happy person, being the person he actually wanted to be. I found the segment where he said even the kidney donation was a performance, looking to be noticed very insightful to how childhood trauma directed his behaviour pre therapy.
cccc is a true supporter lol

Yeah was very truthful and interesting podcast and wasn't just bout Joe's therapy... but that analysis doesn't fit the 'Joe's a bollix' narrative...

I don't think anyone refuted that he is a top barrister, after all if the twisting of the truth, lies, manipulation and deception are the skills of a barrister I'm sure Brolly is world class.

Has to be the most inane post of the year. Whatever about your hatred for Brolly, to label all barristers as that... some who outed the greatest injustices... Bloody Sunday, Stardust, Guildford 4, Birmingham 6, clerical abuse...

You're right. I'm sure there are some honest ones.

Can any of our mayo posters fact-check any of his opening 30mins on the breaffy-knockmore semi final game at the weekend?

Sounds like he was making it up as he went along, threw in with another pop at aiden o'se of course.
