Did I read it that she was/is a prostitute and he never paid her because she was having her period and she then lied (pissed off no doubt) that he raped her and put a knife to her throat?

That doesn't take away the fact that she shouldn't be named and charged with with that, but aside from that, using prostitutes full stop is not a good look either, it promotes so many different criminalities

There is something deeply unsettling about the way it pans out in these cases.

Even in the reporting of his acquittal it's "MAN (HERE'S HIS NAME AND WHERE HE'S FROM) NOT GUILTY OF RAPING PROSTITUTE HE SOURCED ON THE INTERNET. THE PROSTITUTE, YES THAT'S RIGHT, THE PROSTITUTE ADMITTED TO THE COURT THAT SHE LIED TO POLICE ABOUT THE EVENTS IN QUESTION THAT LED TO NAMED MAN BEING ACCUSED OF RAPING HER. A PROSTITUTE. OH, HERE'S HIS NAME AGAIN."

As for "why not jail her?" I imagine it's because there aren't any criminal charges against her, yet. Maybe there will be some to follow. From reading the report, it sounds like the evidence was all over they place from day one. Obviously there's much more detail involved but decision to prosecute in the first place looks bizarre.

It's a tricky one. It's well documented how few sexual assaults and rapes are actually reported, so alleged victims deserve anonymity. Should they lose it if shown to have lied? Perhaps.

You have to question whether it's in the public interest to name this poor f**ker. Imagine being wrongly accused of rape (by an escort) going through all the stress that entails before being acquitted and then seeing your name in the news!

A bit shocked at the teacher getting jail time for this compared to other, more serious offences that result in suspended sentences.

He should be jailed first and foremost for being a dick, it was never ok to say those things to anyone 40 years ago and in todays society he was a complete moron for thinking he can say those things and get away with it!
