Fauda which is set in West Bank, Israel and Gaza is not everyone's cup of tea.. but if you disassociate it from the topic (if that makes sense) then it's a cracking show.

Homeland at the start was top notch

The Americans
t**ker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
The Good Shepherd
No Way Out
Bridge of Spies
Charlie Wilson's War
Argo
Spy Game

Not Cold War, but if you want espionage, The Bureau (Le Bureau des Legendes) is the best written, most suspenseful, most thrilling and gripping depiction of it ever seen on screen, large or small. And it's not even close.

Agreed. And its Parisian cousin "Spiral" is right up there in the pantheon of "gritty cop" shows.

Agree with all those, although never watched Charlie Wilson as I thought it was a spoof. The following are along the same lines too:

A Most Wanted Man
The Night Manager
Our Kind of Traitor
The Red Sea Diving Resort
Operation Finale
Munich
The Gunman
The Constant Gardener
The Ghost Writer.

Watched The Worricker Trilogy and thought they were terrible.

Any Star Wars fans... I just finished the first 2 episodes of Acolyte there.  Off to a good start in my opinion, although I see reviews aren't favourable. Star Wars fans can be very harsh at times.  That said, I didn't particularly like the Ashoka series and would be hopeful that this one is better.

Not only is Charlie Wilson's War not a spoof, it's a true story  ;D

Philip Seymour Hoffman is terrific in it. Completely steals it from Hanks. Speaking of which, I'd completely forgotten about A Most Wanted Man. Brilliant movie.

The Americans is a superb series

Patriot is probably the best show I've seen (of any type) in recent years. Two seasons.  American spy turns folk singer, while continuing to be a spy.  His mission keeps going from bad to worse, calling for ever more desperate measures.

Though in fairness, it is more of a black comedy with the spy thing as setting, rather than a play-it-straight spy story.

Has anyone watched Bodkin. A few Oirish stereotypes but I thought it was ok

Jell 0 Biafra

I didn't expect to like it, but thought it was really good.  I think they did a good job turning the stereotype expectations against the viewer (e.g., the guard who gets drunk in the afternoon when they visit him).

Yeah I thought it would be rubbish - but finished up really liking it.

David Watkins. A brilliant actor, been in loads of Irish films, the younger priest in Calvary and the Ra man in '71 come to mind.
