They are. Hence the big opening offer from Liverpool. They want this done and dusted before United start bidding against them.
26 goals in 28 games last season is not to be sniffed at.

That's just going to raise the money with the bidding war, always handy when negotiating

I'd be surprised if Utd bid for him now that Liverpool have expressed an interest especially as he seems keen to go there. Not a good look for Utd commercially that players are rejecting them for the likes of Liverpool and City.

Btw that's not the typical "we didn't want him anyway" because I'd be fairly certain utd do.

Liverpool have agreed a fee for Benfica's Darwin Nunez understood to be worth €75 million (£64.1 million), with a further €25 million (£21.4 million) in potential add-ons.

Nunez, 22, is set to sign a six-year deal with Liverpool and will undergo a medical on Monday.

Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward has spent the weekend in Lisbon negotiating with Benfica president Rui Costa.

Nunez, meanwhile, has been on international duty with Uruguay but was left out of their squad for a friendly against Panama on Saturday and flew to Madrid where he has been waiting for the finer details of the deal to be ironed out.
