Rodgers will have to make do with what he's got. He earned the right to spend after last season. His spending is done. The yanks won't give him more money unless he finishes in Champions League spot again. This is understandable and correct. He has spunked a lot of money. Maybe too early to judge but the defence has got worse every season he has been there despite significant investment.

I genuinely believe that as individuals the likes of Sakho & Lovren are excellent defenders, they are just not bedding in as a unit. The Skrtel and Lovren partnership has been dreadful of late.
Sometimes I wonder about Colin Pascoe. Is he just a 'yes' man to Rodgers? Who is in charge of organising the defense on the training field? We are conceding the same type of goal time & time again - not dealing with crosses. Id like to see a defensive coach appointed. Would Hyppia leave Brighton for the gig? id guess yes. Steve Clarke & Carragher would also be good options. Carra could still do the sky tv gig, sure gary Neville works with England... Rodgers totally revamped our attacking style, but he doesn't seem to know how to address the defense.

The keeper for me is the biggest liability, and we have no one at all pushing him for his place. Brad Jones is equally as bad as Mignolet, and after him we're looking at youth keepers! Come back Pepe Reina all is forgiven! Seriously even Brad Friedel at 45 or whatever would be a better option than Mignolet.

I thought to myself last Sunday that id prefer two wins from QPR & Hull in the EPL, rather than a fancy win over Madrid in the champs league. Fourth place this year is absolutely crucial. The Champs league money doubles, and a second year for MUFC without champs lge football would be catastrophic for them. Saturdays game with Hull is huge now.
i agree with that alright.
Mignolet is a major part of the problem, im not sure valdes would be a massive improvement but he may help a bit.
Sakho and lovren are both good players, but look devoid of confidence.A new defensive coach may be the change that is needed , evne just to give them a bit of a lift

One-trick pony.  ;D

Giles last night on TV; "Suarez was a terrific player for Liverpool.....All his problems came from 'off-the-pitch' stuff"

Er, John, all his problems were totally related to onfield misdemeanours.

The world and his mother told Rodgers that Balotelli wasn't worth it. Who will take him now? You'd have to give him away plus £16m for anyone to want him...

Is Ballotelli on big wages?

That could be the problem if they decide to get rid of him

yeah, and you said Di maria wasn't worth it and wouldn't be able for the premier league. Mystic meg you are ::)

Apparently Ballotelli is on half the amount than he was on at Inter (£100k / week). Ballotelli is a real blot on BR's managerial reign at Anfield. Some say he was worth a punt, but I'd not have taken him if he arrived with £19m. The polar opposite of what Suarez offered. That's grand, worth a punt surely, but to persist with him is fairly poor management. He should not have been near the starting XI last night, last night needed a pressing game, defending from the front, then continuously making runs on the counter to try to get on the end of things. For all his limitations, 20 Lambert would have been a far better option.

I cannot remember Henderson (who made maybe 1/2 forward passes in the entire match) or Gerrard making a driving run to the edge of the box in support. Gerrard playing the holding midfield role yet didn't stick the leg in once. Yet PC is subbed and these 2 remain on the pitch. Thats fairly crazy stuff smacking of a man content with holding the score line a 3-0. In reality, RM could have won this by 6 or 7.

If a team is to be built on a foundation of pressing the opponent sharp to turn the ball over (like last year), Ballotelli and Johnson need P45'd immediately. Johnson leaving Benzema with a couple of yards (Benzema had his hand up screaming for it for 4/5 seconds) for the 2nd goal pretty much smacks of a man who really doesn't care enough.

Studge is needed back ASAP and Can looks like he can do a job in the engine room, esp in the 'rough and tumble' of the premier league. PC has to be one of the 1st names on the team sheet. He can make things happen esp as Gerrard is so deep and Henderson is so one dimensional. Sterling is an absolute star. For someone so young to be taking the fight (often on his own) to the champions of Europe says a lot about him. Currently Liverpool's ace card

In all that doom and gloom, I'd still be fairly confident of a top 4 finish. A friend who was at the match (no, not a cousin) said Mignolet is the thee player that the fans were singling out for most criticism.

I thought the one he got last night was one of the all-time great goals.

True, he's been a bit better than I thought. MU's results haven't actually followed suit though. May revise my opinion at the end of the season. Hard to see Balotelli turning this around though...

Lads Stevie G needs moved on and quickly!!

AZOffaly

I said it before, he cannot protect that back 4 when the opposition play at pace. It's a no brainer. He's a fantastic servant at the club, and a fitting club captain, but at this stage he needs to be used as a role player, and preferably in the final third of the field against weaker teams, rather than as a holding player.

Can looked lively when he came on last night. Himself and Henderson should be the midfield fulcrum of the future.

Boycey

Its hardly Gerrards fault they've not adequately replaced him?

Don't think he needs moving on but perhaps manage the games he plays in better.

AZOffaly

Yes, exactly. Gerrard is not to blame for the lack of urgency, or penetration. (How many times has a Liverpool widemam/full back got in behind the defence this year?) Gerrard is trying his best to fill a role that he is not capable of filling against a seriously good attacking team. Anyone that moves at pace will expose him and therefore expose the back 4 even more. However, he is still a very important player for Liverpool, just not a guaranteed starter or at least not in that position. (In my opinion).

cadhlancian

Shiny teeth doesn't have the balls to drop him though. His stats last year ( goals/ assists) were misleading, a load of penalties and get the ball up to wee buck teeth, he'd beat about 46 men, stick it in the net, assist Gerrard :o
