Mayo / Re: Mayo Football and Hurling - Discussion pages
October 11, 2012, 11:40:20 AM
Good to see that James has won the power battle and the mayo squad will be able to sleep more soundly in their 4 star as opposed to 3 star beds. I think Doug Ellis made the point that all hotels look the same when your asleep. Unfortunately as has been seen before, these "contracts" hold little value when the going gets tough and a trip to Salthill against a galway team with lots to prove won't be easy for the first outing. James should spend more time trying to find or mould a top class 6, 11 and 14 instead of pointing to logistical issues. As things stand, he has an equal reputation to JOM & JM in terms of lossing an All-Ireland that was there to be won. I'm glad some many people here support the views expressed in terms of dedication and what is needed to win an All-ireland, so when each club is saddled with an extra levy to make up the extra cost in team expenses for logistics, the €100 tickets and cairde mayo season passes won't be comming off the presses quick enough such will be the demand. Winning is all, losing and the bill still has to be paid.

I know horan put a lot of shrule noses out of joint after his appointment due to a misunderstanding of sorts. He wasn't very complimentary to them, so maybe that's where the perceived slight is coming from on the shrule point of view. Conor certainly divides opinion, i think he once commented that mayo wouldn't will an all Ireland without him, looks like we will have to now

Another poor day in HQ for Mayo football.
The galway boys take home the bacon albeit very luckily in my opinion and the mayo lads unfortunately get a bit of a lesson.
Hopefully they can bounce back, still a great achievement

Kenny is a legend for all he done as a player, manager and leader during a tragic time in the clubs history. While his contribution can't be forgotten, it really can't be used as an excuse to dismiss recent performances and results. In Jan 2012, roy hodgson was sacked because of poor league performances, been out of both cup competitons in january and poor signing, poulsen and Konchesiky. By 3pm saturday, LFC may be gone from both again. Will the owners judge kenny on the same criteria not to mention millions wasted on piss poor players ? Rafa was sacked for finishing 5th with his hands tied behind his back by the yanks and GH was sacked for losing the plot after finishing 4th. Lots of talk about "knee jerk" reactions on the back of losses, there seems to be no mention of the knee jerk reaction of buying Carroll last year. The RED SOX's went 78 years or so without winning a world title, the manager that won them two was sacked by John and the boys last year for blowing a 20 game lead so these boys don't necessarily do sentiment.

Kenny shifted a lot of deadwook but to be fair to rafa, his hands were tied with previous owners and had to shop in the bargain bin. The players he shelled out big money on are plying their trade at barca and real. Don't see downing, Henderson, Adam or carrol recouping a fraction of the fees spent on them. As for today's performance, Donegal must have been over training at melwood cos I can't see where that lineup came from, no idea how to attack teams or break them down, maybe kevin keegan could come in as offensive coach

More White suits called for if it's the case they get back again

Puke football, looks like the chance if winning a third rate cup by beating a championship side is of more value then trying to play decent football

Aye right - we'd rather go out and play nice football than win a trophy.

How'd that work out for Arsenal?
how does it work for utd, Barcelona, Kerry, Kilkenny ?
City could have been buried tonight if the pool had any conviction. Finishing with 6 defenders, a goalie and a moving statue is hardly progressive. Roy hodgson wouldn't even chance that

So. Do you remember the s***e spouted about Lampard 'stealing the glory' last week with the penalty he scored against City last week.

Did anyone notice Suarez appearing to beg Adam to take the penalty tonight? Did he heap too much pressure on Adam by seeking the glory tonight?

Just asking like.
Liverpool have missed something like 4 out of 5 penalties so far, hopefully they will sign lampard in the jan window. He can't be any worse than downing out on the wing

Strong statement from the club, when you consider the slideshow of poor decisons put together after the Fulham game then this could go the distance. Wouldn't class suarez as a racist, more of an idiot and slightly naive. Biggest issue is if they can buy enough time until Gerrad is fit and they get a goal scorer in jan. Maybe carrol could do his bit and serve the ban for suarez. The FA has set a precident for themselves. Have clubs gone to high courts like the GAA here to get bans lifted previously ?

Big day for Liverpool tomorrow and in particular suarez, will he get a several game ban for his supposed racist remarks to evra. The same evra who accused steve finnan and some chelsea gorund staff of racist remarks previously, needless to say they were found innocent. If the FA are cute enough, they might get suarez to serve some of JT's time for him. Could be a big xmas for andy carroll if suarez is out, time to sh*t or get off the pot

If both manchester clubs go out of the cl this evening, is there a possibilty that there maybe only 3 spots available next season for the english clubs? Hard to see liverpool in the CL anytime soon if that is the case.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mayo V Kerry semi final
August 23, 2011, 12:37:57 PM
At this moment in time it's difficult to see how exactly the team or squad will develop to one which can challenge kerry. Mortimer and Andy, the best players this year are probably the longest serving and cant improve further. The O'sheas are'nt mobile enough for midfield. Freeman has gone back from last year and Doherty has not held any consistancy. Mark R is probably still one of the best club forwards but it looks like he's not in the plans, who can be drafted in to score 5-6 points from play in big games. While Horan has made strides, the first year seems to be the one where the biggest gains are made for any manager and next years will tell alot. We still need another top class defender and scoring forward and elimating  the bad mistakes and then some luck against the better teams

General discussion / Re: Movies that make you cry
August 19, 2011, 12:52:50 PM
i remember crying watching the champ on TV when i was 5 or 6 but the in tems of crying at the cinema, it has to be watching saving private ryan in a multiplex in a shopping mall in the states. The amount of people crying uncontrollably and leaving the movie during the opening sequence was incredible. A lot of older poeple who i imagine could habe been in the war especially and loads of kids.
