It'll probably get overlooked because she didn't get a medal but that run by Mageean last night was one of the best ever by an Irish athlete in a major race.  She's very good at the press stuff too.  I wonder how they're feeling in Listowel ;)  The quality of that field was scary.  As for Adeleke, I think she's going to be a huge star but she did look a bit sluggish in the semi final.  Unfortunately for her that 400m race is  stacked with talent too.  But she has a minimum of two, probably three Olympics in front of her.  Another 4th tonight??

Go to Portaferry GAC's facebook page, they've a wee 6 second video in the clubhouse of everyone watching the race and right at the end is a man standing with the fist out..

That's her Da, the white hunter, a fierce, fierce competitor in his day if you ever wonder where she got it from, she didn't lick it off the ground.

All county championships should be knockout.

Should the Sam Maguire be as well?

I fail to see how anyone can say the split season is nothing but a success for the majority of active GAA playing members.

For every TJ Reid in Kilkenny/Ballyhale there's hundreds if not thousands of club players getting to play meaningful club championship games at the height of summer.

This agenda that games are losing publicity to soccer, rugby, cricket or tennis I don't buy it, plus the old way meant there was regularly 3 plus weeks between games, the very same intercounty players were complaining about the games to training ratios and CB's were out a fortune paying these backroom staffs for a prolonged period of time.

There's two weeks from the end of the round robins to the respective Provincial finals (hurling that is), then there's two weeks to the AI quarterfinals with another two weeks to the semi-finals and similar gap of two weeks to the final. I see no issues with that, come third in the round robin you'll be out more than that, but there has to be a jeopardy in not winning to make it worthwhile.

In the round robin series no team plays more than two weeks in a row on the bounce. Is that a big ask now?

The post provincial football championship formats to me look to be games for the sake of it, if only 1 team in four get eliminated, is that correct?

It's those lads in the media who need to fill column inches and get paid for their punditry shouting the most, wonder why?

Last time I heard  Greenwood  hadn't been convicted of anything . His girlfriend  recorded something that  put his  freedom and career in jeopardy, yet she's now married  to him and expecting his child?  Call me cynical , but why  would she want to stay with him  if he's so  bad (convicted or not) , and why would he want to stay with her after  her recording  basically ruined him?

I'm not saying it  was right or wrong to keep him , but it seems united  bowed down to a few  protestors and turfed  him out.  If his gf seemingly has forgiven him , the courts have  clearly not enough evidence to convict him , then  why shouldn't United have kept  him?

Stockholm syndrome - Would suggest reading about that. Also pressure on her from her family, her Dad came out defending Greenwood as soon as it happened, tr**p of a dad. Girl has been pressured into dropping the charges and staying with her abuser so her family can live a comfortable life £££.

Hoping for a Tomori brexit tackle, looking like Italy the most likely destination for Greenwood. Roma interested

I know what  Stockholm syndrome is.

You can speculate about  her/her family's motives  about staying with greenwood,  but at the end of the day ,  if he hasn't been  convicted of anything, and she is (seemingly) happy/deluded/naive enough  (delete as appropriate) to stay with him , have his children, then  that implies she  doesn't have a problem  with  him and what he  allegedly did. So , why should   You or anyone  else have a problem  with it? The person that matters most is his partner , so that  should be the  end of it
Her reaction has nothing to do with it. His actions were his actions. Videoed to remove doubt. If you're fine with those actions just because she's happy to forgive then so be it. For me, he's still a c**t.

Lets be clear on this, Man U tested the water on having him stay, it wasn't good, the brand would have taken a battering, financially and otherwise hence why they are now trying to sell or loan him out;

This is dancing on the head of a pin too;

"Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for."

Summary of Club Championships progress in the Counties

https://m.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/with-club-game-the-only-show-in-town-what-is-state-of-nation/a27725552.html

County club finals in October and provincial finals in December pretty much the same as it was before the split season and with the split season wasn't it promised the club All-Ireland series would be completed in a calendar year?

a lot of counties have introduced round robin/backdoor club championships as they've more time to play them out. Back in the day most were straight knockout so all year a club player was toiling for one game potentially.

And Kinnerk left them.

It's a partnership with Heron Bros as the main contractor, so I would imagine it is up to Herons to replace them or work with them to complete the contract if they can sort their financials out.

I doubt they would be needed at the beginning of the works anyway as Herons would be more than able to prepare the site. From what I have heard the contractors for each element have already been lined up.

Through a proper tendering process obviously  ;)

Wexford had the same system last year. Played the Hurling championship first and then football.
It looks like it works in Wexford. The goal for the next while is bolstering the hurlers. Wexford is one of the few genuinely dual counties.

When was the last time a Wexford hurling club made a fist of the Leinster club championship? Only Oulart the Ballagh spring to mind and that was quite a few years ago.

Yes, a lot of clubs are genuine dual clubs but how is finishing you club championship in late July and then not lifting a hurl in anger for a few months any way to prepare for a tilt at a Leinster club championship?

The worst game I have seen in a very long time involving Ireland. Referee is awful too.

Ireland weren't great, particularly the lineout so POC has much to do there, but how god awful bad are England?

They're a raggle taggle outfit who seem to have been thrown together for an end of season tour!
Not that I'm complaining  ;D

Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

Senior semi-finals are probably going to be home games for Ballycran (guaranteed at this stage) and more than likely Portaferry, the Liatroim game vrs us will decide who plays who.

Ironically enough I'd say we'd prefer to face Ballycran in Ballycran than Portaferry in Portaferry so that would mean coming fourth and losing to Liatroim to do that but I don't get that mindset, go out and win every game is always good for morale in the camp.
I get the resting players bit as we've a small core group of key players we need to keep fit, we've a two week break now before we face Portaferry at home, win that and we'd be looking at a home semi-final depending on the Liatroim game the week after.

As for the Pearse Óg McCrickard comments, the key word is potentially, he still has to prove it at a high level and that's more than Div1 hurling in Down on a consistent basis.

He's said sorry, so that's the end of that.

In a very specific and limited way..

He's trying to contain something with his apology and threat of legal action also in a very specific manner!

Another data breach, a cop drove off with a notebook and laptop on the roof of the car. We criticise the police and get the usual "who would you go to if you were the victim of a crime", always responded I just wouldn't bother because they are completely inept and more and more stories come out to just reinforce that

Data breaches in England the other day, so I wouldn't solely put the PSNI down as useless, there must be plenty of these breaches going on, but If I'm a victim of crime I aint going to the local kneecappers/drug dealers to solve a crime!

Sweet jesus, if I was to take my work laptop home and whilst getting into the car left it on the roof I'd be laughed out of the place as a stupid cúnt

Friday games are the way forward

Player WhatsApp groups up and down the county will be going mental making plans for post game pints.

No training saturday, 2 weeks out from the next championship game.

"Were can we go without the gaffer finding out"

"If anyone gets us caught don't bother coming back"

What would be wrong with the lads heading out for a few pints after a game? Never understood that as it's no worse than horsing a big, greasy chinese or chippy into you.

Kevin McGourty seems to be a cowboy, posing as a lawyer in Scotland

Sure if Bryson can do it anybody can!

He's got a certificate;

"In 2018 the Law Society of Ireland awarded him a MOOC Certificate in Sports Law."

Be surprised if he goes.

If this was entirely a BBC NI issue then yes I'd have agreed, but with the UK media reporting on it then I think Adam Smith has quite a bit of explaining to do on the back of the Huw Edwards saga.
