GAA Discussion / Re: Qualifiers

They always do two draws. A practice draw then the real draw. For the last two years they've usually done the real draw live.

I would have liked to see Kildare and Wicklow kept apart, but so be it. Funny that the Leinster fans don't go on about conspiracy theories when they get drawn together unlike our northern friends!

Illdecide, I think that's the qualifying procedure from 6 or 7 years ago, or whenever the last time Newcastle were involved!!

This has more up to date info

Eamon O'Hara says they're prepared to strike

I'd love them to.

The people wouldn't be long turning on them.

I wonder is he off on a solo run on this one or has he checked with Dessie first?

The government is currently proposing delights such as:

  • closing all rural schools with less than five teachers
  • making the parents of the children in these rural schools then pay at least €500 p.a. to transport them to whatever prefabs will be put in place in the nearest town to accommodate them
  • making the parents of special needs children pay for transport to schools (as well as cutting special needs assistants in existing schools)
  • cutting the old age pension by 5%

(there are a host of others but these were just the ones that stood out on a first reading of the McCarthy report)

and these lads are whinging about grants.

Are they on the same bloody planet as the rest of us?
In relation to the grants they are whinging about themselves suffering a 58% cut where most other areas are getting cut 5% to 10%.

A lot of talk that Adebayor is stalling on signing for City (despite all formalities completed on Wednesday) because he's hoping his agent persuades United to match City's bid.

I don't fancy his chances. Adebayor-Berbatov wouldnt be the greatest of combinations.

...btw, and have you ever used the term "free-stater" in a derogatory fashion ?

I used to say. Didn't know that people from the south found it offensive, until I learnt it here. Haven't used it since.

;D  ;D

Yes, very enjoyable match. A few too many wides from Dublin, and it always seemed we had to work harder than Kilkenny for our scores. So well done to the Cats, the better team on the night. Didnt think much of the ref. Hope Gough and Lambert arent badly injured.

Yeah Hound, but these quotes are the ones that sound bad. If they are direct quotes, then he's a silly young fella.

"I saw the tackles myself and they were pretty dangerous, but we're just going to have to deal with it," the St. Pat's, Palmerstown clubman said.

"If the referees are going to let them away with it, it means we might as well do it as bad and hopefully we'll be let away with it as well.

"It's very frustrating when you see them let away with it and you see Kevin Flynn in our semi-final against Wexford being sent off for a tackle that was nowhere near as bad."
Ach, I don't see a whole lot wrong with them. Perhaps he'd be better to say nothing but I don't see much that would or should upset a Kilkenny person. He's frustrated about inconsistent referreeing and notes that Dublin will have to be as tough as Kilkenny if they are to get closer to them.

Hope you are right, relegation makes no sense when you are trying to promote the game. Down should also be allowed to take part in the Leinster

In 10 years time you'd have 22 teams playing for the Liam in such a case.
How come Clare/Wexford/Offaly cant possible be relegated but it's OK for Laois /Dublin ?
Then of course Antrim are so special they cant possibly be relegated either.
THank God for nice uncomplicated football.  :D

Where the hell did anyone say it was OK for Laois / Dublin??

Please stop making unfounded allegations
Are you trying to say the rules would have been changed if Laois were still hot favourites to get relegated?

Its amazing though the spin the journalist can put on it to make it look like Rushe is whinging.

"Rushe condemns Kilkenny tackling"  - which he didn't
"[Rushe] describes some of their tackling as dangerous" - a tone up from Rushe's "pretty dangerous" comment.

If the journalist had highlighted Rushe's actual quotes of:

"we're just going to have to deal with it"
"They've brought a new intensity to it and everyone's going to have to match them if they want to get close."

An entirely different spin could have been put on the article.

Voronin had a decent season in Germany, and there was a period mid season when he was supposed to be fantastic. However, it quietened up towards the end of the season. I suppose if he was that good, his German team or one of the other German teams would have bought him, though granted we've no idea whether any of them made a bid for him or not.

I think he did ok with Liverpool in his first stint. Played reasonably well when in the Gerrard or Torres position, but was unquestionably poor when played out wide.

Plenty of reports stating that if Alonso is sold before July 18, then Real Sociedad take a chunk of any transfer fee. Therefore nothing will move on this until the weekend at the earliest.

Just noticed on the LFC website that Dossena has lost his squad number. Looks like a cert to go so.

Agger isnt with the squad in Switzerland for some reason. Hope its nothing to worry about...

First pre-season game tonight. The LFC channel (now temporarily free for anyone with Sky - not sure about other platforms) are showing the full match from 9pm. Kick-off is 7pm and is live on the website for subscribers.

A complete farce really.

All was fine when everyone thought Laois would get relegated. But Laois win and then suddenly the whole system is unfair and wrong. More encouragement for the GPA when they see what moaning and threats can achieve in the GAA.

Sat Aug 1 - One QF
Sun Aug 2 - Two QFs
Sat Aug 8 - One QF (involving whoever comes from the Meath section of the draw)

So the Dubs highly likely to be playing on a Saturday, probably the 1st, unless they draw Meath (or the team that beats Meath).

Potentially, the final QF could be doubled up with the Kilkenny hurling semi on the 9th.

I'd say that's a ploy from Ferguson to get someone to accept a bid that has already been made.
