Argentina have cancelled their game with Israel tomorrow due to political pressure.

If its pride they want surely they need to go to rugby. There is lots of PRIDE, MEN ARE GIANTS. And the whole game is a bit camp anyway.

General discussion / Re: Catholics voting DUP
June 05, 2018, 12:56:19 PM
Well you know some should vote for them. I've always said that right wing religious nutters like Tony Fearon have more in common with the DUP than any other party on the island. Maybe in a United Ireland where the DUP will have to change and re-brand itself, they will indeed add religious nutters of all persuasions to their ranks.

Half of this year's Division 1 teams in the qualifiers already after Monaghan's loss today.

There are some big fish swimming in there for sure.

Well done Fermanagh, what a result. This needs to be looked at in context. Fermanagh div3 and with zero tradition of winning Ulster and smallest pick in Ireland up against a seasoned div1 team with a couple of Ulster in recent years. They set up within the rules to give themselves the best chance to win and they fought like dogs. Monaghan were pathetic on the day. It wasn't pretty but what about it. May e Sligo played nice football today during the hammering from Galway? Love to see Fermanagh win it out.

If i was lenihan i would be raging. The guy stole his goal. It reminded me of David Nugent when like a twat he poked in jermain defoes effort as it was about to cross the line. Its also risky because nani did something similar to Ronaldo a few years back. Ronaldo chips the keeper for what would be a sublime goal only for nani to steal it and then for the goal to be disallowed because nani was offside

Think that's very harsh. Ball was coming at him quickly, instinct took over. Also he may not be fully aware of where he was standing relative to the goals. I thought he played quite well too for a bit making a big step up. It was great to see arter, Rice, o dowda trying some passes and flair in the last 15 mins instead of hoofing it. More chances came from that than in the 1st half where the bombed ball at walters

Not perfect but great to see Ireland pass the ball around. Rice and o dowda are nice footballers.

I think of my best mates there are about 5 of them that Catholic light - they will go to mass the odd time, marry in church etc. It's almost cultural not religious. Another 4 have zero truck with the church. 1 is religious.

Of the 10, only 1 would agree to keep the church within the schools the way it is today.

GAA Discussion / Re: Donegal v Down 2018
June 01, 2018, 09:06:17 AM
I don't think Donegal are all they are made out to be. Porous and lack pace in centre of their defence. Cavan should've scored 3 goals against them. I think down will be closer than people think and who knows what could happen if they get the rub of the green.

If as reported the poor chap was strangled in front of onlookers......what have we turned our young people into?

There was knackers when you were a kid, and also a maniacal Church abusing children and vilifying single mothers to boot. Save us your hand wringing.

Knackers of course, and some villifying, although sticks and stones and all that. But few murders.
The arrogant  insufferable Syferus believes some kind of golden age started around the time he was born.
Instead of being upset or horrified at the Dunleer case he goes off on another rant about priests abusing kids and single mothers.
Syferus doesn't do background.
Galway supporters are lazy because all the data he has goes back only 5 years.
Anything bad now can be compared against something the Church did.
The current Ros management is the greatest ever because past data is irrelevant
He doesn't listen to observations either.

Re "knackers" there was less public violence than there is now. I can remember the shock when Garda Morley was murdered in the early 80s. The idea that a Garda would be killed was so hard for people to get the head around.

..which happened eight years after Bloody fecking Sunday..
In another jurisdiction during a war.

A few hundred kilometres away involving republicans and officers of the law.. the only difference was that the roles were reversed.
You'd want to read up on history bucko. Bloody Sunday wasn't a shootout between "republicans and the officers of the law"
And the disrespect of "Bloody fecking Sunday" . I suppose inconvenient facts like 14 Irish people being murdered in their own City must be a nuisance to you in your Varadkar wonderland.

He'll have to ask his mammy about that now

The Church wont change and it won't crumble, I believe. It's been here for 2000 years and faced many pressures from the masses (pardon the pun) and it's still here.

In those 2000 years, the Church has changed beyond recognition.

You understand the Church you so devoutly follow bears little resemblance to that which Christ left behind, yes?
You understand that Christ left the Church in charge under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to guide her? The Church still remains. I didn't say it was a carbon copy of day 1 or day 100 or day 1000, but it remains.

So we should talk to the holy spirit about recouping the money owed to the Irish state for compensation to sex abuse victims. Do you have a number for him?

The de-catholicisation of Ireland by itself has been such an incredible positive for society over the last twenty years. This country has modernised itself at an incredible rate.

Don't answer this if you don't want to syferus as I understand it's quite a personal question did you/ would you get married in a Catholic Church, will you have your funeral in a Catholic Church?

I couldn't give a shít either way. It's not entirely my decision either so asking me the question is a bit facetious.

The only time I go near a church is if someone has died or it's Christmas for family reasons. I know very few people my age who have any engagement with the church.

Having a catholic funeral is 100% your decision. I'll give you the marriage one as it is a decision for both.

You kind of made my point for me by saying yoj go at Christmas for family reasons. We have a massive culture in this country of running the CC down and mocking the church and those belonging to it m yet when it comes to funerals, weddings (and Christmas) was use the church for our own gain.

I only go for my parents' sake. I'm utterly bored to tears and wouldn't go otherwise. I'm not using the church in any manner whatsoever besides sitting on a wooden bench in a chilly hall for 40 minutes. I don't think the Catholic Church has any monopoly on dignified funerals either. Once a certain generation die off were likely to see many more secular funerals.

What? A man of great principle like you. What will happen to your parents if you don't go - will they explode or something? I know Roscommon is a bit backward but surely a grown man can decide if he is going to church or not?

I really don't want to know what your personal life is like if the attitude you're displaying here transfers to it.

When I was 16 or so, maybe 15, I said to the auld lassie this Church is some pile of shite mother - I think I will give it a miss. She said sound, its your decision. She goes to mass and I don't. Now I know Roscommon is 10 years socially behind the rest of Ireland but still...
