Paddypower currently offering even money on Tyrone to be relegated.

Any one know what the pitch is like in Killarney (not the stadium) mayo's forward line  like is more like a Summer team . having said that delighted to see ronaldson back . must have been some story with himdelf and James . or was skill just out of fashion .
we'll hold fire on the deciding if the True Messiah is in the other corner just yet

Don't know exactly what you are asking here but I do think that not enough of a difference is made between players who are better winter footballers and players who perform far better in the summer. There was one lad I knew growing up who was a sensational player when it was dry but if there was even the merest hint of moisture in the air was utterly utterly useless - you'd almost swear it was an identical twin with no talent turning up on the days is was wet. Went playing soccer in the end. Then there are other lads who seem to enjoy and perform far better in the wet and windy miserable days - basically the worse the weather, the muddier the pitch, the severe the wind, the better they became. I think it's odd that more isnt made of this in games.

Was talking to a hurler and he reckoned that there were hurlers who were like this except wind was the big factor with them. Calm day gods, windy day dogs he called them. [anyone heard this expression before - he was a Wexfordian so I wonder if it's a local expression from that part of the country]

Also I thought the True Messiah had popped over to Scotland or am I getting totally confused?

Anyone hear any talk about both Queens and Sligo IT fielding ineligible players in their game?

Could lead to UCC getting a walkover to the finals weekend.

I highly doubt that.

I only heard about it very 2nd hand and very roundabout.

I've no idea what the new restrictions that were brought in recently are like on who is a legitimate Sigerson player and who isn't, but given there were new rules brought in, I could easily see some 3rd levels getting caught out by fielding ineligible players. Instinctively I would say it would be far more likely to be a genuine oversight/ error as regards the rules as opposed to trying to pull a fast one.

Not surprised Division 4 is the smallest advantage because you were nearly guaranteed that the likes of Waterford and London would struggle, and there was one other team that seemed to have a 'mare (Carlow filled this role recently). Those teams lost home and away, so it leveled off the home win stat quite a lot I'd say.

Yeah I suppose Kilkenny filled that niche as well when they were in there as well.

GAA Discussion / Home v Away Advantage in the League

Thought these stats on the advantage of home versus away in the league would be of interest, especially for any gamblers.

Interesting that in Division 4 home advantage is the smallest - wouldn't have thought that.

7 years of data makes this 824 games by my reckoning. (112 this year and last but prior to that 120 games with Kilkenny in Division 4)

No subs named by Mayo and a lot of very unfamiliar names on the Kerry bench.

In a game where match fitness/sharpness isn't quite there I wonder if that could be a big factor.

Armagh surely have to up - if they don't Geezer will surely be handed his walking papers.
Armagh won't try to get rid of geezer. In fact I don't think they could get rid of him. 5 year contract and all that

It's not an actual contract of employment; in the unlikely event that Armagh didnt get out of Division 3 Geezer would surely fall on his sword given he was taking about challenging for Sam when he took over.

1 year in Division 3 will do enough damage to Armagh's finances, a 2nd year would be a complete catastrophe.

A catastrophe? How do you work that out? Its not soccer. Will they lose out on Champions league money?

When the Armagh County board publish their accounts next year, you'll be able to see the difference clearly in their income as a result of being in Division 3.

I'm probably overstating it a bit with catastrophe but the finances will take a serious hit (if they are there for a second year, then it wil be even harder)- the thing is that it isn't going to be the senior footballers who suffer from any shortages in money - it will be other areas of the county that take the hit.

I think they GAA should be much more upfront about the structure of the fund, as Kevin said all this publicising on their website and seminars on heart issues yet none of it is covered. I also take issue with the goodwill gesture payment, you can't have one rule for one and another rule for another play the week after.

They are upfront about their cover and it is there in black and white for anyone to come along and read what is covered and what is not.

Players seem to have this notion that no matter what happens that this scheme will catch everything and they will be sorted out, only to find that it is a limited scheme only there to back up whatever private insurance the player themselves have in place. This is the aspect which should be advertised more widely.

Just because this happened at a match does not automatically qualify it for any sort of payment, may seem harsh but that's the remit of the scheme.

It has been stated already if this had of been a junior B player, there would not have been a word about this. There would have been no good will payment and that would have been it.

I think there should be a little more gratitude shown in the fact that the GAA in Derry allowed KMcC to play the game/ past time in such an environment where he could have such a life changing event happen and still be able to come out the other side of it.

Yeah it definitely needs to be made clearer to players that everything isn't covered. Some folk seem to expect that the scheme should cover everything which is just not feasible.

Also McCloy is probably even that bit more fortunate that it's the NHS he had dealing with as opposed to the HSE lads.

Why are they putting a game in a place that cannot hold the crowd expected? There will surely be more than 3000 wanting to attend?

Health and safety reduced the capacity of Kiltoom out of the blue recently. It can hold more than three thousand, indeed it held over 2k (the official figure was 1927 on Sunday so add the rest to that are never counted to that) with plenty of sideline space remaining. The terrace was only built a few years ago so it meets even standard they could throw at it, it's just more health and safety madness. The Hyde's pitch is a pile of shite at this time of the year and it's unplayable.

3000 should be fine for a league game. It's been a long time since we've had a league game with an attendance north of three thousand, and that includes previous visits of Cavan.

Was not all the health and safety madness with the stadiums as a result of the huge amount the GAA have had to pay out in response to spectators claiming thousands for every single slip and fall in various stadiums. I had heard that some of the GAA stadiums had never been properly assessed for health and safety for years and now lads have gone completely overboard for fear that they might have to end up before a judge and jury justifying why they let crowds in.

I think the legal profession is deserving of a lot of the blame here.

Screw Roscommon, the 2015 McGrath Cup winners are on the march. Sam Maguire, here we come!

I see the Waterford senior football and hurling draws were made last night, and the names were drawn out of the McGrath Cup. I got a kick out of that. Fair play to them..

Wonder what the hurling side of the house thought of that, especially given how football constantly seems to get the short straw in Waterford?

When's the last time the Waterford hurlers got any piece of silverware?

I suppose Rhode did do okish in the club championship.

By comparison I don't think any of the other Division 4 teams had a team do much (if anything) in the club championship. Don't think any of the other sides in Division 4 won a game in the club championships? (not 100% of that though)

Not really much to go on but better than nothing.

The loser of this one will be under pressure straight away with tougher games to come.

Division 1 looks like it will be an absolute knife-fight as regards relegation with every point mattering so all the teams will be under pressure from the get-go.

Saw some stats elsewhere on how teams who get relegated from Division 1 tend to do in that year's championship and the short answer was appallingly badly. Basically if a team gets demoted from Division 1 in the league, the odds of that team still being in action in August are very small.
