I mean theres no comparison to days players for physicality ? Look at this clip.
http://nz.youtube.com/watch?v=mc9VY7BKKCw
The first tackle on Ned would have been a red card today.
Now THATS football. Rough, tough but fair. Not this falling over shite and crying about it for 10 minutes.  Just grab the ball and give proper shoulders and fight your way through.
The players from 2000 wouldn't last the physicality, they'd be trampled into the ground.
Oh and by the way. Anyone else think the quality of the kicking was far better then it is now ?

Proper shoulders? There wasn't a proper shoulder in that hold clip! I suppose you think its good that an amateur players would go out to decapitate someone like that. People have to go to work the next day. That kind of cowardly act was atrocious when the Aussies tried to do it!

I firmly believe that, despite all the negativity around our games (most of it coming from the media who complain about every single game), the players are a lot better. And there's no way the players were more skillfull then, would you have seen the likes of Mulligan's goal in the 70's? People say the kicking was a lot better, but they didn't even try to kick the ball into space. It was just a matter of catching the ball, turning and kicking it as log and hard int he general direction of the other goals. hardly much skill in that?

Degen, who featured four times for his country in the 2006 World Cup, spent three years with the German giants, the last of which was blighted by injury.
The full-back recovered in time for Euro 2008, a tournament co-hosted by Switzerland. Unfortunately he did not feature as the Swiss failed to negotiate the group stages.

I'm surprised no-one has latched on to this bit. Right, fair enough we're getting hiim on a free but he has been injured for the last three years and couldn't force his way on to the SWISS national team. We've got another Kromkamp on our hands, I fear

Burn him at the stake  :D

What's the odds on a Wexfod win? I really think they can beat the Dubs, they have some very good forwards, midfield is solid and while their defence mightn't be the tightest, they can raid up the field time after time. Wex by two

Too late: I've texted and e-mailed the whole Tír Eoghain panel!  :D

Well the Louth management are currently mulling over the eloquent post from jimbob123 and are rallying their troops as appropriate.... Watch this space

Hola Pedro,
Don't buy your lot scoring 3-12/15, but I'll give you my vote regardless!  ;)

Jaysus, don't quote me on us scoring that highly! I really just meant that we are a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team, you never know which one is going to turn up. Should be a good encounter either way, some very good individual players on both teams. Both teams, collectively, however, are far from their best at the minute

Only joining this thread now due to work overload!

I think this could be a very entertaining game. The main reason being the midfield area. Both teams have relatively small midfields and depend on winning a large amount of breaking ball. We could very well end up playing very well and scoring 3-12/15 or we could go out and lose by 10 points. I know a lot of the lads were extremely sick over the Dubs defeat as they had out a lot of preparation into that game. If they get th heads up and really take the game to Tyrone, i feel they have a chance.

The ticket scenario is a bit of a joke. In fairness to the Tyrone support, there will be more that 1800 willing to travel. Even in Louth it will be nigh on impossible to get a ticket if you're not involved in a club. We're only getting around 60 tickets when we sold over 300 for the Dublin game. I know it is a great advantage to have the game at home but would the county board be doing a bit of a PR spin on this? I mean, highlighting just how awful Drogheda is in order to speed up funding?

The pitch is across the road from the chapel.  Cotttage Road? I think.  Possibly Clontigora Road.  But it is a full size pitch.  Not just for childer ??? ???

Childer???

Not being smart but I Have heard this word used before by you Armagh folk and have always wondered if is it slang for Children or just poor pronunciation or your accents?

it isn't just us armagh ones that use it, i know a few Tyronies that use it as well!!

And Louth men  :D

GAA Discussion / Re: Framing a GAA jersey??
June 24, 2008, 05:56:01 PM
LE, there's a fella in Omeath who does jersey framing. I know he does some work for that Sporting Visions so he might do it a bit cheaper. I'll see if I can get the number later and I'll PM you.

Pats vs Mattock Rangers, Junior League, June 3rd 2008. Losing by 7 points with 10 minutes left and end up winning by 7. Pretty impressive!  :D ;D

Louth vs. Tyrone in Navan 2006. Down by 8 points at one stage in the first half and by 7 at half time. Louth came back to draw it and were certs to win in extra time as the All-Ireland champions looked beaten. Stanfield missed a glorious effort for a goal and a draw was the result. Probably the best game of football I was ever at. If we had to have won that game, god knows where we would have ended up because we were moving well that year (bar the second half against Meath in the Leinster but the less said about that the better...)

Armagh / Re: Armagh Club football & hurling

What sort of teams did both teams have out Real1995? Was going to tip up but the woman had other ideas!  ::)

Brilliant stuff AZ, fair play. The final brought hairs to my neck much the same way as Shane Hynes last minute goal in 2003 Louth SFC final against the Mary's. That drew us level and we went to win the replay. I'd imagine the scenes around Lordship were similar to Gavin's!

Now I think you need to take a few weeks off and recharge the batteries after a long, hard season and then prepare for the Leinster Championship  ;)

Two of the best I have heard involve Sean O'Neill from Cooley. His a big midfielder, a sort of throwback to the 60's and would go on as if he's from that era even though he's only about 27.

We would have a big rivalry with Cooley, and we were beating them by a couple of points in a league match in Cooley. So Cooley management throws big Sean onto the square for last few minutes. He's marking Colin Goss, Louth's regular full-back and an absolute beast of a man. Anyway, the ball is being humped in and the two boys are wrestling each other and neither of them has any interest in the ball, they both end up on the ground to which O'Neill says: "Come here to me Goss, don't make me put you over me knee"! I nearly pissed myself when I was told!

Another one is from the championship final last year. O'Neill didn;t start because he got a red in the quarter and only got it overturned that week. Anyhow, we were winning well and they sprung O'Neill on to curb Paddy Keenan's influence. He was only on a few minutes and a scuffle broke out after he caught PK late. O'Neill turns to PK and says: "I'm going to empty your tank this day, Keenan"

My own club U10 team last year was unbeaten and they were taken on a trip away for the day with everything covered. Its been a few years since past U10 teams were taken away for the day rather than just have a presentation day, so they were rewarded for their success. Ditto many club teams that go on team holidays for winning championships which is now a common occurrence.

Sure is that not the same, in principal, as the Tyrone holiday? They got all their expenses covered yet they got x amount of money on top of it. It's the samme thing as your club giving each of those u10 players, say, £100 as well as the aformentioned trip. Monetarily rewarding them for their success, basically
