Just read the Irish Times article and as Maguire says above, nothing new. Big headline but no real substance. As for Logie, sure he still really hasn't said much about it. It's all a bit vague. It say's he's busy now, but it doesn't even go into detail as to what he is doing.
A nothing article really. I'm just surprised RTE haven't snapped up Jerome Quinn. I always liked his genuine passion for the game, and the game always seemed to come first instead of the ego led RTE boys, Brolly, Spillane and co.

I would disagree and say Quinn had as big an ego as any of them, Brolly and Spillane had reason to have an ego. If Tyrone were gettting any sort of criticism by Burns et al Quinn would shout them down like a petulant schoolboy.

Can you give an example of this ego?
The self-styled Mr GAA brings the BBC to a tribunal, represents himself and helps fuel a mini media circus and you don't think there's any ego?

Who said there isnt any ego? There may well be but his broadcasting was football led at all times unlike others.
All I said was that he came across to me as a genuine GAA follower, full of passion and knowledge. As far as I am concerned Quinn stood up for what he believed in and faught for more coverage for our biggest sport. That's admirable in my book. Some may call him foolish for taking on the BBC establishment but fair play to him I say. Both BBC and UTV continue to show prejudice and if Jerome has done nothing else he has highlighted that.

Pointless trying to predict the winners given that the squads are largely unknown. 17 new players in the Monaghan squad - just 2 who started last year's Ulster Final. Even if Monaghan are hammered in their 3 McKenna Cup games, it will mean little.

Having said that, any county who decided to take the competition seriously, rather than trying to blood new players, should win it.

Predicting the winner is just a bit of craic especially when you note how differently each county takes it. Totally agree, those counties who do not experiement will suffer long term. The fact that Monaghan have 17 new players in is a good thing but also shows how badly they need new blood.
As mentioned above I predict Armagh given what I have just mentioned. Donegal will push on too and Tyrone will always be there or thereabouts.

Read that book about the Waterford footballers. Fantastic. A real eye opener with some great stories.  Have utmost respect for the coaches and fellas that dedicate themselves like that in a county consumed by hurling.

The updated 'out of our skins' is next on the list. Anyone read it?

What is the Waterford footballers book called?

You could be right but I just don't remember seeing it that way. To me he always came across as a real GAA supporter. And the fact that he shouted down lads for criticising Tyrone is not an ego IMO it's genuine passion. An ego is Spillane and Brolly trying to out wit each other and see who can be the most controversial. Their rants are about them rather than the match, Quinns views were always about the football first.

I don't like accusing people of such a horrible and dispicable crime, until the facts are in. Whether that be Mickey Harte, Priest or anyone else for that matter. It's a horrible thing to be labelled, if untrue.

Agreed. But one fact we know is that he was interviewed by the peelers about it. That in itself, like it or not, is newsworthy.

If the ONLY reason you believe him to be innocent is that he is the Tyrone manager, you need to sit down and have a little think to yourself. That is all.

Dublinfella I think you raise a fair point but I think the general view on here is NOT is he innocent or guilty, it's more who cares if he is or not, it's hardly crime of the century to receive front page headlines. And why does it take a man 32 years to raise it?

GAA Discussion / McKENNA CUP 2011
January 08, 2011, 11:54:23 PM
Just saw that all the McKenna cup games have been called off. So who will win the thing anyway? Here are my thoughts for what it's worth;

ANTRIM: Probably Bakers last year. Will most likely not try out many new faces and has the St.Galls boys.
ARMAGH: I think O'Rourke is a man under pressure. Fell flat on his face last years in c/ship. Has a few new lads in. My predicted winners!
CAVAN: Val Andrews talks a good game but that's about it IMO. Another year in the doldrums.
DERRY: The team with huge potential but will probably take time to find their feet with new manager.
DONEGAL: McGuinness has said he wants to win the McKenna cup! (Why?) Has brought in loads of U.21's. Too many too soon IMO.
DOWN: Huge year in 2010 so 2011 can only be worse? McCartan continues to play everything down (Getting boring now). Slow starters in McKenna cup after big year last year.
FERMANAGH: 2nd worst team in Ulster now to Cavan? McKenna cup will provide better opposition that Div.4. O'Neill to stop the 2010 rot! 2011 big year.
MONAGHAN: Promising much for years and now Bantyless. Let the predicted decline commence.
TYRONE: Harte continues to put emphasis on this competition. Beaten finalists in McKenna cup.
QUEEN'S: Finalists a few years back but lean years since. Last year they looked poor (Saw them V Derry) but O'Rourke will have learned from last year.
UUJ: Always strong and have a very good manager in McGuckian. Will not be far away.
St.MARYS: Pat Tally will have them in shape. Won't win much but will tighten the best of them

Just bought Christy O'Connor's 'The Club' and Tony Griffin's 'Screaming at the Sky' of Amazon, here's hoping they'll keep the January blues at bay for the next couple of weeks!

Let us know what the club is like. Looking forward to getting it at some stage.

Jeez that was brutal, what the fcuk are coaches doing with boys these days???  The majority of them skidded the ball off the outside of the boot and that is with a kicking tee!!!!  I was never the most accurate but I could kick better than that.

Ah cop on will ya. One thing for sure is that you are not a coach anyway. Why the hell would a coach be teaching young lads to kick long kicks off the ground! The video has clearly showed the worst of the kicks and I would guess that most teams would be no better than this. I played football at underage when frees were from the ground and I had a good kick, I still play the odd bit now and honestly could not kick it 20 yards. WHY? Cos I will never have to do it in a game so never practice it! The specialists look after that role.

Broken crossbar, you sound like Spillane. Blaming all and sundry for everything that insnt "the good ole days". I watched Kerrys golden years recently and whilst there is some lovely football played, a clear theme of that era is lads kicking the ball as high and long as possible with absolutely no direction or clue where it was going. Puke football!

Got 'The Club' as a present and read it over two days during the holidays. A great read.

Have not heard a single bad word about the club. What is it all about? A spoof club, piss take?

In fact the complete opposite CK...I'll give you a bye ball and pretend you are taking the piss. On the other hand if you're not takin the piss I'd question the wisdom of you posting on an internet thread about GAA books if you don't know who Christy O'Connor is.

Of course I know who he is, I just wanted to know in what manner it was written as everyone seems to love it, young and old. I still have no idea what it's about though. Gonna google it now.
