GAA Discussion / Re: County Manager Merry go round

PŠdraic Joyce sounds confident in his first interview as Galway senior manager.

"A successful year one would be to start off winning the FBD league and then go on and win the National league, and then the All-Ireland. Thatís our aim Ė thatís what we are aiming for straight away,"

"It might sound far-fetched to a lot of people. Iím not saying we are going to win the All-Ireland in two or three yearsí time, we are training for the 30th of August next year. Thatís when the final is on, thatís when we are training for. And if we donít do that, I would see it as disappointment."

The words of a VERY inexperienced manager! Silly comment which will haunt him.

Heard that Donie Buckley might be on the ticket with of the men been interviewed for the Galway job.

That would be odd. He was years away from Kerry before landing back with his native county. He'd hardly leave them after one year.

The only possible ticket he could be on is Liam Kearns I imagine. Can't see it though.

Is Rochford completely out of the running? I know he is with Donegal but I'd have thought he would be an obvious choice given his knowledge of Connacht football

Played 4 or 5 games with Crosserlough. He left in the summer and returned to St Brigids for championship.

He played Sigerson with Sligo It also.won 1 or 2 Sigersons with them

Jesus he loves coaching. Who's he managing next year? Antrim? Laois? Surely it's only a matter of time till he picks up the International rules reigns? Will he cross codes like Jim before him, Finn Harps perhaps?

Yeah he loves the oul "coaching" (money!) alright. Seriously though, is there ANY other man in Ireland who has played for 4 different irish clubs? Wouldn't you be embarrassed after the second one!

Heard a good one tonight about Rory Gallagher.

He has played for 4 different clubs in Ireland and 3 in USA and has played for 2 different counties also. He has coached 10+ different clubs, mostly short term and Derry is his 3rd different county to manage in space of 3yrs.

Has there ever been a greater journey man in the history of the GAA!

I'm hearing Tony McEntee is a shoe-in in Monaghan. I'd guess Monaghan people would be happy with that?

Sligo going all out for 2020. A great coup getting Taylor on for another year afetr his 100% record this year.
Massive statement of Intent by our County Board. ;D

I feel depressed. Taylor was quoted in the media recently that he was "just getting started". I would be very concerned about where he could take us

It is notable though that old guys on their deathbed in hospital are more concerned with being able to watch on tv the goings on in the GAA championship, than their upcoming appointment with St Peter.

You absolute low life!

He's completely losing the run of himself over on Twitter. Entering into the sort of territory that could get him in hot water with his employers.

Why, what did he say?

As far as I know he's a self employed barrister and is a millionaire. He'll have no concerns about any repercussions.

A lot of commentary on the ref. As a neutral I thought he did ok but perhaps a bit generous to Donegal and kept them in the game with a soft penalty. Technically he was correct as the jersey was clearly being held but there was no doubt that Murphy was grappling with Keegan as much as the other way around. It was a soft penalty to give away and was probably the only way Donegal were ever going to get a goal.

If Mayo had their shooting boots on they'd have beaten Donegal by 12-15+. Donegal were poor and they looked like it was just a matter of showing up. They are wide open defensively and if you take Murphy, McHugh and McBrearty out they are a very average side. If anything they proved they lack the cahunas for the big challenge.
Mayo yet again silence the critics, including me, and march on to the last 4. They really are a sensation.

Listened to Kieran Donaghy day that Meath team and supporters will be massively hyped for the game against Kerry on Saturday night. Iím not sure what he is smoking, will supporters even bother going to a meaningless game for them. Not sure if itís a bout of Kerry yerra yerra or whether he has just bought into the Sky hype train.

Agree. Pure sh*te talk by star. Meath supporters won't even travel in big numbers.

They'll be well matched this weekend as a lot of the Donegal squad all drive round in sponsored cars too. There was a pic knocking around of the Dublin car park of 30 same cars. Surprised Kerry are not on this same gravy train.
