GAA Discussion / Re: Armagh v Cavan Sun 8th June

QuoteThe best craic I ever saw was after the parade in a Longford County final about 20 years ago.
Indeed I remember that well....Jas Brady from Granard was the ref...very funny indeed. Think it was a bit more than 20 yrs ago tho. I played in the co. Final 20 tears ago and I think this could have been a few years earlier even.....lord time is flying!!!!

Never mind who hit who and who put which flag where and all this other minor stuff.  Surely the real important question is and this affects every living soul..... does anyone know what colour the future is now😊 :D.......is there even a future at all now???

Just not sure about enda williams centre back....rather see someone with a bit more pace there. Maybe even Quinn with Michael Brady in mf. Think Declan Reilly is a huge loss....not just as the best back we have but just his pure calming influence on lads around him.

Poor laoislad was accused of obsession....think if you check this out you'll get another great example. ..http://www.redcafe.net/

Listening to Rodgers today he doesn't seem to have instructed them to keep pushing and I reckon they would have been delighted with 3 nil before it started.  The 2 goals so quickly was in hindsight probably a bad thing as the plan that a win was enough got overtaken by the mistaken belief that they could score at will. Staying at 2 nil for 15 mins would have more likely ended in a 2 nil or 3 nil win. Anyway certain andy carroll is goin to bury a header from a downing cross next sunday......just hope its a last minute winner! !

Unreal difference between the Chelsea home and away dressing rooms. Its like the Ritz versus a local youth hostel. The away even has a tactics board partially behind a fire door that is supposed to be kept open.
Home at Anfield is actually very basic.....apparently on purpose too as a reminder of the good old days or something like that....

GAA Discussion / Re: Under 8's / 10's query

Was heavily involved with the local club in go games last year and there certainly would be instances where overage players were played but it was always a situation where a very weak 9 year old would play U8 etc. There can be a huge difference in size and ability at these age groups and certainly it was never raised as an issue. Scores weren't kept and no results were given (although the kids always seemed to have a fair idea). Even our own club would play 9 year olds at U8 now and then but these kids would barely be able to make the U8 team. Of absolutely no benefit to them putting them out with an U10 team

Should actually credit Mrs nl for that weekend away. One of better christmas presents. Everything booked. ..flights, game, dinner and tour.  She even came with us and didn't go to game.  Think she was sorry.
I got interviewed outside the ground after the tour for my opinion on poor luis...never showed it on the telly tho...mrs nl said they were looking for a soundbite not an oration. I reckon the accent was the real problem! !

QuoteHow obvious was it at the time that something FUBAR had happened?

Actually don't think a single person in the ground noticed it.
I should have been working at the towns cup final with longford rfc and I was following the game on twitter and started to see these strange tweets. First one was a journalist who said. ..did suarez really do what i think he did....the tweets got more definite over the next few mins. It was on that telly in the bootroom cafe that we saw it first. Sure only for television he'd have gotten away with it. God knows how many lads were canibalised before sky came on the scene!!!

Did the tour the day after the chelsea game where luis appeared to get very hungry near the end. Did whats known as the legends tour where one past player leads the tour. We had Aldo and he was an absolute gent. Must have had his picture taken about 500 times. He was like a kid in a sweet shop. He just seemed to love talking about Anfield and his time playing and everything else. Some great stories. The most obvious being how gutted he was to be sold. Only ever wanted to finish his career with Liverpool. Really enjoyed it....Most of the pics are self explanatory!! The second last one is the bootroom cafe for dinner after the game....Alan Kennedy in the background doing a bit of chatting.....was a bit funny because he wasn't sure what to say about the Luis incident....he probably hadn't even heard what Rodgers had to say about it....altho as the last one shows we could have told him a few mins later

Anyone have any idea why when I try and go into the Longford GAA page I am now told I need permission to open the page. Never had a problem before yesterday

QuoteAhem. I went with Dessie Barry.
..AZ you're even wiser than I thought.

As for Billy ......but you left out the wrong one although in your defence I expect you are one of the ones that would recognise him

As for me in future when I start 9 pages into a thread I will either read it a little more carefully...or not at all!!

I see everyone is going with Paul Barden in Longford. Would argue its a very close run thing between Paul and Dessie Barry. Dessie would have played on any county team in Ireland. Some of the goals he scored were incredible including one very heartbreaking one from my own perspective!!!!
From a pure talent point of view I've seen very few footballers with the natural ability Declan Reilly possesses. I think he is completely wasted playing corner back for Longford but then he is the best corner back in Longford. The club tried an experiment a few years ago where he played full forward for 2 consecutive club league games and he scored a combined total of 16 pts. The experiment failed because they needed Declan Reilly out the field to kick the ball in to Declan Reilly!!! And speaking of Paul Barden he is the only player I have seen completely outplay Paul and he's done it more than once. Pity is of all the experts on this website you wouldn't find 10 who would recognize him if he walked past them......the problem with coming from an unfashionable little county!!

Very good in the boat that rocks and mission possible as well. Just a very talented actor. I don't know but sometimes think the pressure of being in the public limelight is a bigger problem than any flawed genius. I had an old teacher who constantly pronounced that we all put on a face to meet a face. I think in the situation where everybody is watching your face and you are expected to never let it slip than it can be very tough. The mind can take us over and in that case maybe its worse to have money. You can try cures that patently are not a solution.

Have to say Borini should be a serious addition next year considering the roasting he gave the best right back in the league/europe/the world/there has ever been (circle as appropriate).
