So let's hear your quarter-final picks for starters.

Should the 8 quarter-finalists be Div 1 in the League for the following year?

Should the 24 non-qf teams play off for their provincial titles up to the final or semi-final (depending on how many qf teams from each province) in some way during July and August?  Maybe semi-finalists exempt from provincial fixtures?

Losers of Rd 1 play in Tommy Murphy?

Best schedule for games...Rd 1 and Rd 2 in May?

Some interesting clashes in Rd 1 and Rd 2...the local rivalries not really done away with, are they?

Good pubtalk, if nothing else.

So our championship will have the seedings dictate the match-ups.  For ease of reading I have grouped the games into pairs, with each pair of games producing a quarter-finalist.

8 Donegal v 25 Leitrim
9 Derry v 24 Sligo

5 Galway v 28 Antrim
12 Meath v 21 Roscommon

13 Wexford v 20 Fermanagh
4 Armagh v 29 Wicklow

3 Tyrone v 30 Tipperary
14 Monaghan v 19 Louth

6 Dublin v 27 Carlow
11 Kildare v 22 Limerick

7 Laois v 26 Clare
10 Cork v 23 Longford

Rules: Add total league points, with double for Div 1A and 1B; 2 points for losing league semi-final, 4 points for losing league final, 5 points for winning league.  3 points for provincial championship win, 5 points for provincial win.  2 points for every qualifier win.  5 points for quarter-final win, 7 for semi-final win, 10 for Sam.

Maybe the 2005 season numbers should be reduced by some multiplier to give the more recent campaigns more weight.
Next post will have competition draws.

9  Pat Spillane

7 Mike Sheehy

6 Peter Canavan, Jack O'Shea, Ger Power

5 John Egan, John O'Keeffe, John O'Leary, Paidi O'Se

Recent Footballer of the Year Awards:

2006 Kieran Donaghy  Kerry
2005 Stephen O'Neill  Tyrone
2004 Tomás Ó Sé  Kerry
2003 Stephen McDonnell  Armagh
2002 Kieran McGeeney  Armagh
2001 Michael Donnellan  Galway
2000 Johnny Crowley  Kerry
1999 Trevor Giles  Meath
1998 Michael Donnellan  Galway

Refreshing our memories with the Team of the Millenium:

1 Danno Keeffe (Kerry)

2 Enda Colleran (Galway)
3 Joe Keohane (Kerry)
4 Sean Flanagan (Mayo)

5 Sean Murphy (Kerry)
6 John Joe Reilly (Cavan)
7 Martin O'Connell (Meath)

8 Mick O'Connell (Kerry)
9 Tommy Murphy (Laois)

10 Sean O'Neill (Down)
11 Sean Purcell (Galway)
12 Pat Spillane (Kerry)

13 Mike Sheehy (Kerry)
14 Tom Langan (Mayo)
15 Kevin Heffernan (Dublin)

Have to say I'm not inspired with that team....way before my time.

Still in heaven...second pick to Canavan just ahead of Maurice Fitzgerald.

Need a defender with the next pick...now I'm in trouble.

I'd approach the question of best player this way...I'm captaining a team in heaven, and I've got first pick.

I'll take Jack O'Shea .

Dec,

Many thanks...what a tremendous resource you have there.

I'm looking to get a chronology of every championship game played since my club was founded...this will really help.

Now, if you have this sort of stuff, what else have you harvested from sites no longer around?

After all, we are but keepers of the flame...

#1406
Does anyone have some sort of GAA Annual from these years that can help?

#1407
Can anyone help me locate the football championship results from 1989 and 1990?  Especially Connacht, Munster, and Leinster provincial games.

Thanks,  BH

The scoring goal in Croker is at the Hill end.  Kerry Mike will testify that PTG proved this to be the case. :)

Somehow I think Kerry Mike's crowd have a damn sight more scores in either of Croke Park depositories than all of PTG's countymen over the years.

And the Hill end is indeed the main scoring goal...but has anyone any stats to back it up?

Do you need facts from the book, or get to own a copy of it?

My copy is not for sale.

Roscommon ahead of Sligo and Leitrim.... I don't think so!   ???
What form is that based on?

2006 League has Roscommon with 5 wins, Sligo 3, Leitrim 2.  Leitrim has 1 win the last two championships.
