General discussion / Re: iphone or ipod touch?
November 26, 2008, 10:26:55 PM
Sorry Frank I missed your last reply there.

I have my touch topped with music podcasts and also a few video podcasts and movies as well.

Apart from that I have a few games like darts, pool, checkers, keepy uppy,, space monkey and I also purchased Crash Bandicoot for a few quid which is pretty good for a while.

I also have the BBC iplayer application which is handy to have as well.

The downside though is a lack of connectivity to wifi. We have it in the house and it's also in a few of my mates houses as well which means I get a chance to use it fairly often but it is annoying when you can't get connected. That's the only downside for me. If you do get one though I'd say invest in a decent cover as they are fragile things and you'll go mad if you do anything to it. Luckily mine is tip top but my cousin cracked his iphone after a couple of weeks... I couldn't be doing with that!

I'm doing a decent wegiht program at the minute but not sure about the protein shake. I'm 14st but carrying a bit of a gut and would like to get down to 13.5. Is that possible with taking the shake or should I just be restricting my diet and doing more cardio stuf?. Not really sure what to do to be honest.

What's the Irish for Chantelle or Beyoncé?

As for the Asians changing their names when they come here I think it's not fair. Fella in my class called Callum, no more was he Callum than I am Beelzebub but that's what we were supposed to call him. It's a stupid practice which only serves or ignorance towards other cultures!

Counties in violation of GAA winter ban to be hit in pocket

By Colm Keys

Tuesday November 25 2008

The GAA are ready to crack down on counties who insist on including 2008 inter-county panellists in trial games held in November and December.

A moratorium on all on-field inter-county activity was imposed at a special Congress last January that precluded inter-county challenges and group training sessions as part of measures to tackle player burnout.

But some counties, particularly those who have been out of championships since July and also those who have new managers at the helm, have been busy organising trials in recent weeks.

In some cases, regular inter-county squads have been divided up for internal practice games.

But this practice has now been outlawed and clarity was delivered at last Saturday's Central Council meeting.

Any county found in breach of this regulation will automatically lose 50pc of its league gate revenue, it has emerged.

Outgoing inter-county squad members have however been cleared to participate in organised gym sessions in November and December.

The moratorium has not gone down well among inter-county managers with Clare hurling boss Mike McNamara being the latest critic.

Meanwhile, the GAA will launch its strategic plan for 2009 to 2015 in Croke Park later today.

- Colm Keys

Does tht include trials that have already taken place? If so there are a few Counties in trouble I would imagine!

Interesting theory DH. I agree wih your first sentiment. A short funny sweet fone call that night will work wonders for you but weemen tend not to like th sober conversations so I would generally leave it "I'll ive you a shout during the week" and leave it at that. Tuesday evenin then is a good time to send the "did you get over the weekend alight? Some night's craic, I'm still dying!lol crap if she doesn't text back you're pretty much gone but if you're really desparate try a text on a Thursday nite again if nothing hn foget about it.

POG I also agree you shouldn't be going round a man's discussion board looking for advice but there's a man with an opportunity for some majestic taa taa's... we owe it to ourselves to give him every help in trying to motorboat those bad boys!

Here are the games that McKeever would have marked Canavan... Derry 6 Tyrone 2! Explain how it is a myth again? Oh and you can add an Ulster Club Final that Dungiven won against Errigal Ciaran to that as well thanks ;)

It is there lad.

In terms of the most talented footballer id definitely say Tohill, Mc Keever was the best at what he did, but cornerbacks dont need much footballing ability, they can go whole matches without kicking the ball, maybe touching it 3 times and have a good game. So for that reason i wouldnt vote a corner back as the 'best footballer'. When Mc Keever did play out the field for dungiven he was very good though. Fergal Doc and Paddy Bradley will be in this list in 15 years time as well, and Bradley will get more votes than Brolly.

Have no Bellaghy posters been on complaining that the most successful team in Derry Club History have no names on the list.

Surely Damian Cassidy deserves a mention. The best footballer that Bellaghy ever produced and we have produced a few!

dont know why you re laughing at Joe Irwin
a very good player who wasnt playing at the top long enough- or just didnt get seen in the days of bad tv coverage and even worse Derry attendances

Its hard to compare players who are superb in their own positions

McKeever the best man to man marker in the game, and the only man that made canavan look like a junior footballer
Scullion superb
McGilliagan - best in the game at what he did
Tohill best all round attacking midfielder of his generation

cant compare so I cant selct

Be quiet you idiot!! For sure they had many a good battle, but a junior footballer, wise up

Someone told me Canavan never scored from play off McKeever. Don't know if thats true or not.

You should have beaten Dungiven in 1997.  I recall watching them before we played and I'll be honest was thinking that we could handle them in the Final.  Lost sight of what was important that day.

Ah yes another infamous Canavan/McKeever battle that day which McKeever won on that occasion. In fairness Dungiven were a good side with a lot of quality back then... don't start lynchbhoy on this topic though or you're in for a long one!

You cant beat Dara O'B for an Irish comedian though.

Anyone ever hear the story of a poster on this board drinking with him until 5am 'one time in band camp' ?

Cheeky fecker >:(

I'm a bit of a stand up comedy nut and have been to a right few. Haven't been to Des Bishop. Not sure about him yet, as to whether I'd enjoy his stuff or not.

Dara O'Briain was outstanding. Saw him twice. Saw Tommy Tiernan twice and he was ok. Sort of gone off him now, his newer stuff isn't great. Saw Andrew Maxwell live in London and he was first class, really enjoyed him. Saw Colin Murphy three times and he was good craic. Of all the Irish comedians, my favourite would have to be Neil Delamere. I was laughing out loud from start to finish. Saw him twice. Saw your bloke Tim McGarry (Da) live and thought he was terrible, really awkward comedy, didn't like him at all. Saw Paddy Keitly and he wasn't too bad, but he was better when he first started out.

Outside of Ireland, I've seen Chris Rock, Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Lee Hurst, Stephen K. Amos plus other.

Heading over to London in December to see Reginald D Hunter.

Saw Reginald D. Hunter a few years ago at the Belfast Festival... the man was a scream. You're in for a treat there Zig.

Seen that myself just the other night, though he was brilliant.  Another fella who appeared on live at the Apollo, can't mind his name, also used to captain one of the teams on Mock the Week.  He diescribed himself as "a fat Michael Owen".  Anybody know who I mean?

I think that's probably Jason Manford who's a captain on 8 out of 10 Cats. Quite funny imo but there are very few English COmedians who inspire me at the minute.

As for Des yeah I've seen him a few times and found him funny. Going to try and get to his Derry show in the New Year to see if he's still as good. As for the other Irish Comedians well Tiernan has dropped considerably, Murphy is just ok, Delamere the same and O'Briain the funniest of that lot but his acceptance in the main stream in England has meant his humour has changed somewhat. Best for me is Andrew Maxwell. Saw him in Derry a while ago and he blew me away seriously funny and seems to have quite a large bank of material as I've seen him a few times and each one  different.
