General discussion / Re: ski Holiday any good ?
« on: September 28, 2007, 03:45:02 PM »
Went to Pas de la Casa 3 years ago. I've been dying to get back since but cicumstances have dictated otherwise.

We were all beginners but I'd say that there are better slopes for ski other than Pas. I'd like to try Bulgaria or Italy and somewhere with a few more ladies around to be honest. Apart from that the place we stayed was good, the bars were good and cheap and the food (in restaurants, not our hotel, YUCK!) was nice and quite reasonable. A good place for ski-ing virgins I'd say!

For me no holiday will ever compare to the ski holiday I had. Awesome!

If you're looking to relax though stay away as they are hardcore!

As the man once said:

"You nearly need another holiday to get over the holiday!"

I'm absolutely hooked on American shows... watched most of them on the internet at this stage!

My Name is Earl
Two and a Half Men
How I Met Your Mother
That 70s Show
2 Guys and A Girl
My Wife and Kids
Malcolm in the Middle
Arrested Development

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
The West Wing (my personal favourite)
Las Vegas
Ugly Betty ( I know i know but I was bored for like a week!)

Before anyone eats me about Prison Break and Lost, they are on my list but I've enough to keep me busy with these bad boys!

There is zero chance of a North Derry final although Dungiven would probably be worth a wee flutter of the 2.

Ballinderry have too much in too many departments! A strong defence, a big midfield and 4 County forwards. If Devlin and Crook aren't firing Muldoon and Gilligan can pick up the slack and vice versa. As well as that they have great backup along with it. As people have said with Glenullin's firepower up fron they are always in with a chance but I think they are to weak in other areas and I think Ballinderry by at least 5!

Bellaghy are not what they used to be and one good performance against a small Screen team that didn't turn up on the day will not mask this. This will be a very dour struggle simply because neither team has much fire power in their forward line, Bellaghy are too reliant on Brown and Dungiven don't have a few decent forwards but no real outstanding ones apart from myabe Pauric Murphy (and he's not worth 6/7 points a game). I still think that Bellaghy's defence and midfield are too strong for Dungiven so I'd say Bellaghy by 2.

Has there ever been an all North Derry Final? I had a quick check on wikipedia there and unless it was like over 50 years ago I can't see it. Also, did anyone know that both Buncrana and Birt have won Derry championships?? Strange!

General discussion / Re: Class Room Assistants Strike
« on: September 27, 2007, 12:22:49 PM »
What is it that classroom assistants actually do? I never had the luxury of one. We had a couple of ladies who helped out in the science dept for experiments and so on, but at primary school we had one teacher from P1-3, and one from P4-7. Both had major pyschological issues, but they managed to give us all an excellent education.

There seems to be some confusion to the normal person as to what exactly a classrom assistant does whereby people think just help the weaker kids in the classroom.

More and more classroom assistants are assigned to help children with learning disabilities or children with special educational needs. Sure they will give help to the other kids if they ask but it would not be their main role.

Classroom assistants tend to assist kids with dyslexia, asperger's, autism or EBD. It is not practical when you are teaching a class of up to 30 kids and they are all at different levels and then you have one or 2 kids who neesd special attention. Classroom assistants are invaluable in helping teachers and I think they deserve some sort of recognition from the Govt. on this!

Max I think everyone knows not to take Mullan too seriously. His bias would be laughable were it not for the fact that the Mid Ulster has a fairly big circulation around the place. My favourite ever was a Lavey Dungiven match a few years ago:

(Something along the lines of)

"Henry Downey was reduced to a mere spectator as his 1993 All Ireland winning colleagueJoe Brolly gave an exhibition of forward play kicking points from everywhere and scoring points at will. "

Shocking stuff!

Looks like Coleraine will be promoted anyway at this stage so more than likely they will be in the Senior championship next year.

To be fair it looks very competitive in that league with 3 teams capable of winning it coming into the last 3 or 4 games!

I thought he was suspended for the q/final and was back for s-final.  My mistake.

Nah he was sent off in the last match against us. I presume he only got a month for striking but I think you get a mandatory one match ban for that too.

Two intriguing games this weekend against the undoubted best 4 teams this season. The first game promises to be a dour struggle with Dungiven probably getting a lot of bodies in the middle third to crowd Bellaghy out of it and pick up the loose ball. I'd say they also have their homework done on their forward line too and Eoghan Brown will more than likely receive some special treatment. I think that for Bellaghy to win this game they need their other forwards to start firing. At this stage of the championship you need more than one scoring forward and I think there will be a couploe of points in this one either way.

The second game could well be an open encounter and most neutrals will be hoping for a straight shootout between the 2 Bradley's and Devlin and Muldoon! I can't see this happening. Ballinderry all around the pitch have class players whereas Glenullin are lacking in quality in their defence and Midfield. I fancy Ballinderry to face their toughest match so far in the cship since the Screen ;) but I still think that they've improved massively as the year has went on so I'd have to say Shamrocks by 5.

Ideally though I'm a man for the Underdog so I hope Dungiven and Glenullin prevail to setup an unlikely County Final. Anyone else with me?
