I could be wrong but heard that in terms of attendance  the dublin tyrone match will the biggest sporting advent in the world during the weekend, even more than the superbowl on sunday night which will have a crowd of 75,000!!

If this is true its amazing that the league match, which is only the second tier competition in football can attract such a crowd given its the first round and not even a final!
I know the major attraction is because its underlights but even still!!

Not necessarily the biggest sporting crowd. It'll be a very close call anyway, Twickenham is also sold out AFAIK and it has a capacity of 82,000 while Croker has an extra 500. We'll have to wait for official confirmation before we can decide it It's still no mean feat for a national league game though!

I'd say it is Paul alright, or else Patsy but I doubt it! Galway are a shadow of their former selves at the minute and I actually think this is a game we can win. Meehan will be a massive loss for them and I think the team we have out should be good enough to beat them.

Having said that I have reservations about Keenan Wilkinson, Bradley and Conway. All good players but haven't really proven it yet at this level. I suppose they get their chance to impress this weekend so good luck to them. Also not sure about the O'Kane Lockhart positions. Why not just put Gerard O'Kane in CHB and be done with it. We've already tried Lockhart at CHB and GOK is as natural a CHB as we have and has been playing well for Queen's so why not throw him in there?

AFAIK most places in Derry are covered by at least one club (Tobermore/Fivemilestraight area is a contentious one between Screen and Glen). There used to be a map of the club boundaries but I can't seem to find it anymore. As for the City Well I've no clue how clubs are divided out up there but I would presume that anyone who wants access to a club has it.

Cheers Lynchbhoy I'm gettin on the best over here and avoiding as many advances ass possible from the Tans in case I get stuck with one ;). I hope all is well with yourself and I'm guessing you're about to plot your way to a Dublin underage title with Brigid's as we speak  ;D

Was just doing a search to see if I could come across the club boundaries for another thread when I came across this document which seems to be our stratey for the next 5 years... I haven't really had a chance to look at it in detail but from what I've read it throws up a few interesting talking points and it certainly looks the part anyway. What do the rest of you think?

Personally I like both Derry's strips! The pink version they had a few years ago was completely rank but the 2 designs at the minute seem to look the part. I think the Down geansaí isn't too bad at the minute and I like the way that O'Neills kind of have the same designs for most counties geansaí's I think it adds to the whole idea of community within our sport.

I think the Dubs are streets ahead of most counties in terms of their strip though!

Read my post again, thats what I'm saying, the referee said you (the co.board) were there come to your own conclusions, but what do the co.board do, they punish the referee by not giving him anymore matches for the rest of the year instead of giving the 2 clubs a punishment.

The Screen Glenullin row was blown completely out of proportionn IMO. Judging by both camps there are two completely different sides to the story and even though some supporters jumped the wire I don't think any slaps were thrown by them. Both players involved in the start of the row claim the other threw the punch first (But all agree that Bradley got rough treatment during the match) yet nobody got a good enough view to support either side (apparently although I have my own conspiracy theory about that one which is irrelevant now).

Anyway getting to my point, both clubs did get fined for the incident in question and as Slim has mentioned before both Ballinderry and Slaughtneil have been involved in extremely serious incidents before which may have had a bearing on the decision of the county board.

In fairness the only thing that I would have had a problem with is the fact that it was dragged on so long and that the Slaughtneil players were in effect training for nothing. I don't see why the whole thing could not have been sorted out quicker to stop people from wasting their time!

That's the whole point though Stalwart! Even with the current system the big 4 are winning through (12 out of the last 13 with Dungiven, Slaughtneil and Loup only winning one each in that time...) so why not let the rest of us get a couple of extra championship games to try and improve ourselves... the more high pressure games the rest of us get the more we'll be able to improve is all I'm saying.

Have to agree with most of the sentiments about Jim. Don't get me wrong he definitely has the talent (i've been on the receiving end more than once) there is no doubting that but he's just not consistent enough and as Max has said  he's had a lot of chances. Whatever people want to say about him being a sub... it's up to him in training to show that he's worth a place and then get his chance.

On the CHampionship format I think anything that gives teams more championship games can only be a good thing. I can't see this new system taking away from the competitiveness of the championship as you're still going to have the same 4/5 teams challenging and with the suspected emergence of teams like Kilrea/Magherafelt and Screen due to recent underage successes it can only improve the competitiveness of our championship and improve the quality of our games. For although we may have the most competive championship the actual quality of play in our championship is extremely poor.

Only an opinion screenexile -

I know it is only an opinion but I think it is that kind mentality that is ruining Derry's chances on the inter county scene.  People are told that the County's only holding them back and it demeans playing for the county... what you get is the current malaise that has set swept through our team in the last few years where playing for Derry is only a formality and we end up getting beat by teams like Longford and Laois!
