General discussion / A message from doire na rithe
February 20, 2009, 03:27:17 PM
doire na rithe received a permanent ban earlier.

This is not an attempt for it to be reversed but he has contacted me to post to everyone to say sorry for comments. He just got giddy the odd time, usually on a Friday, and tried to wind up people and went a bit far.

He said he will email me an apology and asked me to post it up so will do later.

(This is not a piss-take, he did want to say sorry).

Let's get this debate going again as I can;t find the old thread.

Saw a list from the writers, i'll post it later when I find it again, of their top-10, included some stinkers.

Lisa on Ice the best for me.

The baseball one was on the other night, fantastic.

Tiger may be back for the Matchplay next weekend.

The title of world's best sportsstar will be reclaimed quickly by him.

I suffer from Sleep paralysis and it is horrible.

General discussion / Funniest thread ever?
February 09, 2009, 07:35:10 PM
The unladylike proved very popular, although some of the older statesmen did not approve - likewise with the questions you were afraid to ask.

What has been the best?

There is one I can't remember, but the Christmas gifts one certainly stands out - I think it was called what to buy the girlfriend?

General discussion / Caddy attack
December 16, 2008, 12:10:25 PM
Williams could be in trouble with Tiger. It would be a tough 10% to lose for NZ's highest paid sportsman.

Woods dismayed by caddie comments

Williams has been the regular caddie for Woods since 1999
Tiger Woods has distanced himself from comments made by his caddie, Steve Williams, who said he had no respect for Phil Mickelson.

On Saturday, Williams was reported as saying that he hated Mickelson and that Woods did not get on with him either.

But Woods said on Monday: "I was disappointed to read the comments about Phil, a player I respect. The matter has been discussed and dealt with."

Mickelson's management said Williams's comments were "grossly inaccurate".

New Zealander Williams, who has caddied for Woods since 1999, was originally quoted by the Taranaki Daily News saying he "hated" Mickelson, adding: "I wouldn't call Mickelson a great player."

He later confirmed the quotes were accurate, adding: "I was simply honest and said they (Mickelson and Woods) don't get along.

"Mickelson pays me no respect at all and hence I don't pay him any respect. It's no secret we don't get along either."

Mickelson hit back immediately, saying: "After seeing Steve Williams's comments, all I could think of was how lucky I am to have a class act like Bones (Jim Mackay) on my bag and representing me."

Woods and fellow American Mickelson, the world number three, have been US Ryder Cup team-mates five times.  I worked with Tiger for 10 years and I can tell you he wouldn't have been very happy with that

Butch Harmon
Phil Mickelson's coach

Mickelson's coach, Butch Harmon, said he was "shocked" by Williams's outburst.

"I can't believe he said what he said. I think it's deplorable he would say something like that," said the American, who has also coached Woods.

"Golf is a game of honour and integrity and that was a very uncalled for remark. I don't think it's any reflection of what Tiger thinks of Phil Mickelson."

Harmon said he could not understand why Williams lashed out.

"Phil Mickelson is one of the most popular players in the world, every bit as popular as Tiger Woods," he said.

"He's a nice guy, all the guys like Phil, so I don't know where Steve was coming from with that comment. Personally, I would assume he would wish he'd never made it.

"I would have loved to have heard a recording of the conversation between (Williams) and Tiger. I worked with Tiger for 10 years and I can tell you he wouldn't have been very happy with that."

General discussion / GAAboard awards 2008
December 01, 2008, 06:45:32 PM
As the end of the year approaches, perhaps it is time to round up some nominations for the annual awards.

I'll throw out some categories, feel free to add to them.

Poster of the year

A number of candidates here. It could be for smart posts, humour whatever. Tony Fearon, Uladh and ONeill would all be high in my list.

Here of the board

This will probably only have one nomination - the man, the legend, the victim Hardstation. When he returns his welcome is sure to make ven Nelson Mandela blush.

Thread of the year

Too many to remember. Lately the football bets thread is a good laugh. There was one, maybe 07, what to get for xmas or something, excellent.

Conflict of the year

Plenty of posters have been turning on each other, who has caught your eye. 5times v POG? OWC v GAA Board, Pints v everyone?

Newcomer of the year

Who has added that something special

**** of the year

Does exactly what is says on the tin.

Any posters play online?

Sounds genuine  he really wants a Premiership over here. Obviously he was a success, but with him returining and Begley and Shields not making it, are young stars going to realise that is is not a dream ticket?

------
Tadhg Kennelly is returning home to Ireland after the next Aussie Rules season in the AFL.

The Kerry-born Sydney defender has undergone groin and shoulder surgery since the Swans were bundled out of the finals by the Western Bulldogs in the second week of September.

The 27-year-old said: "I want to go home and play Gaelic football and do what my dad and brother have done, win premierships back at home."

Meanwhile, two young Kerry stars could be moving in the other direction.

Tommy Walsh and David Moran are reported to be travelling Down Under later in the month for trials with AFL club St Kilda's.

Both players are from new Kingdom manager Jack O'Connor's Kerins O'Rahilly's side in Tralee and will be competing in the county final next weekend.

General discussion / Favourite sporting quirks
October 22, 2008, 04:46:05 PM
Not your usual stuff, but what stuff or stories do you like from sporting events? E.g the curse of Babe Ruth.

For me, I really enjoy when the Kop appluads the opposing 'keeper on his approach to the kop goal. If he returns the favour the appluase continues, if not he gets booed. Extends to United keepers, Everton keepers etc - all get a round of appluase.
