GAA Discussion / Re: Laois v Armagh

Seeing as cork and tipp couldn't get 3000 to a Munster semi final 2000 people, with the competing tv attraction would be a respectable attendance.

Yes but he is happy to kick balls for Crossmaglen Rangers and a Junior Soccer team but not for Armagh. While not wishing the lad any ill whatsoever, and acknowledging his right to do as he pleases, his decision is still a massive let down to his county and its supporters who, despite being relegated, will still be out in force in Cavan today.I don't see how this can be described as courageous. To the contrary it's taking the easy way out and showing disrespect to your teammates and supporters.

Five players, including D Mc Kenna, left the Armagh squad after the defeat by Cavan three years ago, while the Championship was in progress,to go to the States.I don't think any of them played regularly for the County again.

Gavin MC Parland starts today.

I came on to this board to read about Armagh v Cavan and I see 25 pages on this topic. Flabbergasted. It's drivel like this that drives the likes of Jamie Clarke away from playing football. I've been on the Armagh forum for years and while there can be trouble and idiotic musings there is no way the moderator would allow this to continue. This tread should have been deleted a long time ago.

Home draw is a decided advantage for Armagh. There was 6,000 at Wicklow game, there is likely to be 10,000 at this game. The Armagh support is the best in Ireland for loyalty.

Have to agree with that. Tremendous crowd for a divsion 3 team playing one from divsion 4 at 230 on a saturday.

Is there a seating plan for the Gerry Arthurs stand online anywhere ?

wrong. bogue got a player to breach confidentiality/break team ground rules. the subject matter is coincidental. everything stays in-house without exception. thems the rules for obvious reasons and it's not difficult to understand and see the need to adhere to them. not recognising these simple facts is disingenuous.

LOL u claiming that he used interrogation like methods to prise the info out of Cassidys mouth.  Think u may be overvaluing Declans intimidating and threatening nature .

Posters from other counties seem to be assuming Michael Stevenson is going to start v Tyrone.  However anyone who was in Donegal will tell you the lad simply doesent have the pace or ball winning strength to command a place in the first 15.  We have either Aaron Kernan or Aidan Forker perfectly capable of taking left footed frees.  The right footed ones are more of a worry.  Most likely candidate is Tony Kernan but again I fear we are trying to create a place for him.  After that its a lottery.  Brian Mallon took them v Mayo and Dublin but his range would be extremely limited and again not guaranteed a place.  Micheal O Rourke made a total mess of 2 vital ones in the 2nd half v Donegal and again his form means he is likely to be on bench.  After that there is non one I fear.  Hence it looks like T Kernan is almost guaranteed a starting spot despite never really doing it for Armagh seniors.

Hard to beat Jack O Connors biography.  Despite the chip on his shoulder towards the 1970's team and his inability to endure any criticism from them I thought it was a great insight into the Kerry psyche and really showed him to be a tremendous thinker on the game.  Alsoshowed no matter how successful a team is there is always dressing room problems.  Eg You'd never have believed Tom O Sullivan to be a player with disciplianry issues but they were highlighted here.

Madness.  League was perfect as it was.  Dont anyone tell me it doesent matter.  4 teams in the semi finals are 4 division 1 teams next year. Everyone was taking it seriously and it had become an excelllent under rated competition.  Over time in the league every team finds their proper level and this is what had happened over the last few years.  One of the few things the Gaa had gotten right and they decide to ruin it.  Another nail in the coffin in the battle v rugby and soccer.

As a totally neutral Armagh supporter at the game I actually thought it was quite sad to watch in many ways and an incrediable indictment as to how far Ulster football has fallen behind.  Tyrone looked 50% less fit than Dublin after breezing past Armagh.  Jesus how bad are we ??????  Not Mickeys finest hour.  Conor Gormley at 5 for so long was a total mystery.  No way Connolly scores 5 points from play v him.  Even if he had to be sent off to stop it happenin.  Far too long in making a switch to stop it from continuing.

Tyrone carried the ball into the tackle so many times it was incredible.  Peter Hartes display proved how poor a defender Aaron Kernan has become.  That was the top league tonight Peter.  You werent going to walk through those boys.  Did Tyrone turn the ball over in the tackle once ?  No intensity at all in their defending.  Mulligan how did he stay on ??? Kyle Coney goes from starting 2 games to not even one of the 5 subs.  Strange.

Sad to see some of the Tyrone stalwarts so poor.  B Mc Guigan P Jordan K Hughes.  All totally exposed.  R Mc Menamin not seen.  Justin Mc Mahon ?  My god what has happened there.  Looked like he was running through treacle.  Hard to see any positives to the future.  The youngsters you dont know how good they are as they havent been tried and the old men are obviously finished.  Ulster football looks in big big trouble.

Antrim : div 3 team and thats their level
Armagh : Good players but POR confirmed for another year so we have no chance.  Backwards.
Derry : Cant score without Bradleys.  More interested in club.  No chance
Down : No defenders.  No Clarke.  No Mooney.  Forget about it.
Fermanagh : Beaten vy London.  Enogh said.
Cavan : Beaten by 10 by Longford.  Pathetic.
Monaghan : Thought they were improving but destroyed by Offaly.  Not much hope
Tyrone : Huge team turnover coming.  Transition time.  Cant see success in 3/4 years.
Donegal.  Obviously Jim Mc G has moulded them into demon workers.  But its the same team destroyed by Amragh and Cork in recent times.  Cant see them scoring more than 7/8points v Dublin.  Wont get enough men in scoring zones.

Where has it all gone wrong and why.  ??
Too much emphasis on defence ?  Power training ? Cant see an Ulster winner in 5 years at least.  Anyone any theories or more optimism than me?

On a slightly different note, in many different publications I have seen great praise for the performance of the ref David Coldrick.  While not wanting to dwell on different decisions I thought he ruined the momentum of an excellent first half by taking a ridiculous amount of time to deal with situations.  It took him an age to discuss things with umpires and the Diver Toner kick incident must have taken almost 4 minutes to resolve.   Also after scores he strolled out to midfield and goalies kickouts were terribly slow to occur.

All this wouldnt be so bad if you had a rugby situation where the clock is stopped when hes doing all this talking.  But I couldnt believe it when at the end of the first half 2 minutes of stoppage time was indicated.  Should have been at least 5 if not 6.  Why oh why has this not been sorted out by GAA authorities.  3/4 minutes could mean at least 3 scores.  Hence to me its a much more important change to be made than hawk eye which may effect one score every 3/4 games.  This lack of proper stoppage time is effecting every half we play.

Why is 3 rows from the front "one of the worst seats possible"?

You cant be serious hardstation.  All you see is legs and have absolutely no perspective on flight of the ball or players positioning.  It is terrible place to be.  They can stuff it.  Ill be going to the hill and you can have ticket if you want.  NO CHARGE.

I got my season ticket today.  Section KO row C.  Can anyone confirm this is 3 rows from the front of the stand.  And if it is the case it is a total disgrace that a supporter who was prepared to travel to both Mayo and Cork is treated to one of the worst seats possible.  Not good enough.
