GAA Discussion / Re: Galway v Sligo -June 9th

I think he means that by playing and beating some of the top teams in the country they have shown that they are a notch or two above the best of what the rest of connaught have to offer and i would have to agree with him on that. Make no bones about it.....a connaught title is important to Mayo this year....but these guys have serious ambitions beyond that. Every position is fervently fought for....competition is massive....they will be hard bet.!

Think this is a good strong team and expect a robust performance against an inform team. Unlike previous posters  - i believe in what James Horan is doin with the squad in rotating players and trying new systems to get the right balance....now is the time to do this....This was always going to take time and injuries didn't help but i have been impressed in what he's doing and what he's trying to achieve. Obviously this is not happening quick enough for some people.....so patience required.

Looking foward to seeing Alan Freeman in the open spaces of Croke Park.....think this guy is our Colm Cooper..........and will be there to roar my head off for them.....!

Glad Maughan decided to exit stage left...there's nothing more he could bring to the table...been there -done that..!!
Appointing lyons would be a retrograde step.......too much baggage......nightmare stories from his foray with the dubs...the players had to get together to get him out for gods sake...man management skillls non-existent. Team building excerises to louisburg holed up in tents in the driving wind and rain....mad stuff.
mayo need to seriously look at the likes of James Horan. Could be a complete flop but i think the CB have to take a chance on this guy. He's young.....currently in a club management role in Mayo so knows the club scene and has no baggage. It's a young mans game. Used to look forward to his column in the "western" as he spoke/wrote a lot of sense. was dissappointed when they suddenly stopped. Anyone know why cos he was better than that flute Gallagher.!!
So for an exiled mayoman in galway looking in - Horan would be my man.

Dempsey seems the obvious choice to me and i would be surprised if they looked beyond him....it works for roscommon....he knows all the players.....and is currently the  U21 manager....that now or paidi O'Shea who promised an All Ireland if he was in charge............a lot of Mayo players wouldn't be familiar with the phrase "fu*ked over the sideline like a loaf of bread".....they'd certainly have a laugh though.!!!!

I wonder if he'll appear in Martin Breheny's top 25 players in saturday's Irish Indo.......an absolute travesty if he doesn't appear in the top 100 somewhere.................a pure genius...........never to see his likes again.........glad that he was around in our generation for us to see because they will be raving about him for years to come..!!

QuoteWell done on getting your fist out of his rectum long enough to type that reply.

No, I think we'll leave that kind of stuff to you and your boyfriend ONL...if what I read on other threads is to be believed.

i'd say the average age on this website is about 12  when you look at the juvenile stuff that appears here. Sad.!

Thats a fair point and there definitely were a number of Mayo deficiencies (missed goal chance, too slow to get the ball in, dropped their heads when Meath rallied). It is still fair to point out that barring a combination of terrible decisions from different officials, it would have been different.

That works both ways though.
Conor Mortimer clearly touched the ball on the ground before laying it off to his brother who dropped it into the square for the Mayo goal.
Mayo also got a free for absolutely nothing straight in front of the posts in the 2nd half.
I genuinely don't think O'Rourke brought the ball across the line so then we are basically talking about a line-ball given to us incorrectly (from which we still had to work a goal) and a 45 which wasn't a 45.
So it all balances out.   ;)
No he didn't - look at it again.! That was one of the most legit scores of the day. The peno was  definately not one and O'Rourke certainly did take it over the line. These incidences were at crucial times of the game and each time it threw meath a lifeline when the game was ebbing away from them. And they needed these decisions as there was only 3 points at the end of the game. Anyway, besides all that - you could pick the best of both of these teams on display and Kerry would still hockey them. I would say mayo would prefer this to be meath as i don't think mayo would ever recover from a third drubbing from the kingdon. Time for someone else.

So who's in line to fill in for B. Moran. Will Johnno change tactic if we don't have the 6'5" on the edge of the square. Hardly start Conoreen in his place then that will be a complete change of tactic. meath will have their homework done on A. O'Shea and you can't load all the expectation on a 19 year old regardless of how good he is. Would love to see Tom Parsons fill in for B Moran. Big tall lad, good hands and would be able to bring the rest in to play. Tactics would remain as they were. If not maybe A. O'Malley could be used as a battering ram instead but would prefer the former option. Anyone else any ideas or be able to pre-empt what Johnno will pull out of the hat for this one.
Anyway if Carlsberg did the championship then we will beat Meath by a cricket score - meet and beat kerry in the semi and finally beat Cork in the final to avenge all the years of pain. Would probably die happy.!!!!

Huge loss but not the end of the world. Able bodied replacements to come in and the mix of harte, parsons, heaney, o'shea and barry moran should be enough to see of a mediocre galway midfield and hopefully the injury isn't so bad for McG to return for the  Q/F stage should we progress as we should.

It must be a Mayo thing. My dad finds fault with every single one of the players in the Green and Red. Many of them wouldn't make a junior club team if he had his way...

I think it is a Mayo thing you know. Everybody wants to win the All-Ireland of course, but it's developed into a very remarkable psychosis in the County Mayo. It really has.

I've long believed Bruce Springsteen to be a Mayoman you know:

You end up like a dog that's been beat too much

Till you spend half your life just covering up

Maybe this year we can finally deal. And then again... :(

Glory Days - Don't worry - some of us still dare to dream..........!!!!

anyone have an update on this.?

god it was poor stuff - if mayo don't put up a big win against ross after that then they may as well forget about any ambitions they might have this year. Played by and looked like div 3 teams.

GAA Discussion / Re: BBC.......

Fantastic that BBC are showing these games - have only good 'ol analogue for RTE so to have these games (and this is the most competitive province in Ireland) on digital (freesat) is fantastic. Fair play to them.
