The tradition in Jarlaths was always if you were young enough for football you repeated the leaving regardless of results. I REMEMBER THE GREAT 94 jARLATHS TEAM which won the Hogan Cup, they had about 10/11 of that team the next year and most of them were repeating the leaving. They still lost the Connaght final to their next door neighbours St Pats.

Surely someone knows where Des French is from or what club he played for? If from Lurgan what club?
#5
N.P. 76 i am from Donegal so will not argue with you but i think Des French was from Whitecross, if not who was the Whitecross man on that 1993 team?

John "chopper " Fegan midfield on the 98 team, scored 1-1 in the Hogan final. Was Liam Doyle on that team? Who was the captain?

Don't think Mark Roland was from Antrim,  big Ronan Hamill was full back and he was from Antrim. Jesus i have some memory and i wasn't even supporting Colmans. What about Des French from Whitecross another man on the Colmans team. James Byrne from Lurgan another on that team.

Does anyone remember the 1993 Hogan Cup Final between these two colleges? Played in Longford, i was at it because there was a couple of lads from Letterkenny playing for Jarlaths. It was the first time i saw Michael Donnellan and Padraic Joyce playing. Donnellan got a great goal after half time to put Jarlaths 4 up but a wonder goal from Diarmuid Marsden late on won it for Colmans. A lad called Mark Rowland i think was captain and MOTM for Colman's.

No doing the same here, they are full of praise today for the team. Mc Guinness is getting the best out of them. Things looking up for Donegal football.

Having looked through the panels i have to say i fancy a few euro on U.L. They seem to have a big strong team with plenty of good footballers. From memory the 2 Tipp lads in the forwards are decent players along with the Kerry lads and Niblock from Cork. D.C.U look very strong but U.L. have already beaten D.I.T. who were second favourites so at 8/1 might go with them.

Was at the game. Donegal certainly were the better team but Tyrone were horrible never seen them so poor. Neil Mc Gee is turning into a top class full back. Leo at 6 was also very good and Murphy and Mc Fadden fought for every ball that went into them and worked well. Mc Guinness used his subs very well and wasn't afraid to put Frank Mc Glynn in after 20 minutes. All points to a good game next week in Letterkenny against Kildare.

On a separate note very poor atmosphere in Healy park and not the first time i have noticed this at a match here.

Someone earlier has commented that Donegal looked very fit and Mc Guinness has been training them hard. Christy Cooney was at the Convoy dinner dance over the Xmas and was staying with a local family, on his way back to the house after the dance he said he was expecting big things from Donegal this year. The driver of the car asked him why he was so expectant of good things and Christy replied, sure they have been training for the last 3 months. :D

GAA Discussion / Sigerson Team of the century
November 17, 2010, 02:26:35 PM
Here is the short list for the Sigerson team of the century. Just thought it a bit strange that none of the Tralee I.T. teams from the late 90s  have made the short list except for Seamus Moynahin who is probably selected for his days in U.C.C. Does anyone think the selection committee is being a bit snobish rergarding the new colleges and I.T's. Also i hope the team is picked on their performances in the Sigerson cup and not their overall football career because if so it is wrong. It could turn out to be a balls like the St Jarlaths Team which was picked a few years ago which made a couple of disatrous decisions and turned the whole thing into a farse.

Sigerson Team of the Century shortlist revealed
17 November 2010

The GAA's Higher Education Authority has released a list of 60 nominees for the Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup Team of the Century.

The announcement of the team will coincide with the centenary celebrations of the famous third level football competition in 2011. The list of nominations is a veritable "who's who" of Gaelic football with UCD heading the list with 22 players.

However, the nominations have been criticised for being overloaded with players from the past, with Galway's Michael Meehan, Dublin's Bryan Cullen and Paul Finlay of Monaghan being the only current only inter-county players to make the shortlist.

The real reason Jimmy resigned was because he has to practise more for the St Eunan's GAA Strictly Come Dancing taking place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on December 3. Fair play to Jimmy the Minister for Fun. There is no Sporting club in Donegal north East can say that Jimmy didn't help them out big time. From GAA clubs to Hockey clubs to Orange Halls he pumped some money into them all when he was Minister. Also never charged when you went into the surgery unlike his colleagues who charge 45 euro for a 2 minute visit. Everyone calling to the surgery would want to see Jimmy because they knew he probably wouldn't charge them. Great man with plenty of integrity.

Cavan / Re: Official Cavan GAA Thread
October 12, 2010, 01:27:36 PM
No all there older players are gone. Mc GUINNESS was player manager last year when they were beaten in the county final. He really wasn't up too it and was poor at midfield. Gildea and Paddy Campbell are retired a couple of years now, although Campbell is player manager of Steelstown who lost the Derry intermediate Final last week. Glenties are young and light but have a few good forwards like Leo Mc LOONE and Dermot "The Brick" Molloy. If Kingscourt beat Cavan Gaels they must be decent and playing in your own pitch in front of a good local support must be worth 2 points a least. That why i think 11/10 is a great value bet.

Just wondering whats the latest with Kingscourt, i see they are underdogs against Glenties in this weeks Ulster Club. Considering they beat Cavan Gaels and are playing at home, and the awful record of Donegal clubs in this competition  i think they are great value at 11/10. Just want to know what they are like at home and have they any injuries and are they taking the Ulster club serious or are they still on the beer?
