General discussion / Re: Official Gooners Thread

The "Lets all laugh at Arse-nil" topic has been merged into this one as there was no need to start a new topic.

I think this is fair warning for us all.
I notice that Hoganstand.com have just switched to a registered board.
Premierview have gone for a completely private forum and have also suspended new registrations for 6 months.

There are more people keeping an eye on these forums and we have to be very careful about what is said here.

I went looking for the "feck this, I'm off" thread to find your business site but it appears to have been whacked.
Perhaps this board needs CCTV ;D
The topic starter must already be having a change of heart and pulled the topic.

Given that people occasionally announce their retirement from here and then have a change of heart, I think the best course of action would be to leave the account dormant.

GAA Discussion / Clarification
March 19, 2008, 07:51:00 AM
This post is to clarify some recent issues that have arisen with regards to the moderating of the board.

This board's commitment is to provide a resource to those interested in reading and contributing to quality GAA (and other) discussion. A great depth of appreciation will always lie with the excellent contributors whose knowledgeable posts have greatly enhanced the forum over the years.

As has happened on many internet discussion forums, through time, there appears to be a trend for the emergence of characters whose primary role and concern is to cause nuisance and to drag debate downward. Unfortunately, it has proven necessary to have moderators to protect and promote the integrity of this forum.

The moderators role is to facilitate useful debate. Action taken in furtherance of that aim is not taken lightly. Decisions are made in good faith and with the best interests of the forum being the primary consideration.

It is not the place of the board to engage in public debate with third parties regarding every specific action taken. This is especially the case where the directly affected members themselves have not sought clarification through the channels available to them. Such debate would create a precedent of having to provide reasons behind every administrative decision taken, which would be unworkable. From a practical perspective, members need to understand that some deference needs to be given to the moderators.

If a directly affected member is genuinely aggrieved by a decision, then it is open to them to engage privately (within reason) by email (this can be done from private email addresses) or through the private message facility on the board, whichever is appropriate in the circumstances. This has worked well in the past and it is hoped that this mode of communication would continue to lead to the resolution of similar matters in the future.

As always, the admin can be emailed at admin@gaaboard.com and a reply will be given as soon as practicable.

There is no move in the offing.
The ezboard.com hosts of an older incarnation of the board were moving locations and sent around a mail to all the old subscribers.
Feel free to ignore it.

Normally a topic like this would get merged into the Official IFA thread...but we might let this one slide  ;D

The standard of debate has taken a dip recently and we'll look to rectify it.
There are too many personal duels and jousts going on that lower the tone of things.

It can be tricky to police from an admin point of view. Short of widespread and heavy handed censorship, you have to hope that people debate in a reasonable manner.

Apart from the empty vessels who post rubbish, its always disappointing to see normally reasonable contributors taking the bait and getting drawn in to slagging matches.
