Just had a big bag of popcorn that mixed sugar coated with salt covered & christ they were tasty. Not my own concoction either, made by Walkers.

General discussion / Call Centre Technology
July 28, 2015, 04:01:50 PM
Maybe this all old hat, but it was new to me today. I had reason to phone Amazon today & was met with (presumably) a call centre operation. It seemed to me to be totally computerised, the voice seemed synthesised ( cowboy American accent). I was wondering was it fully automated or was it some Indian fella just typing in answers to a computer & the voice modulator/synthesizer answering me? I was never once asked to repeat anything & that was surprising as i'm not easy to make out on  occasion & heavily accented -  to the Indian call centre workers anyway.

Have to say I was very impressed, mucho Kudos to Amazon, but maybe as I say it's old hat? Or it's not operating as I imagine?

General discussion / The Savage Peace - 1945
May 25, 2015, 02:02:56 PM
One for the War buffs. On BBC iplayer for those interested & missed it, some harrowing accounts of reprisals against Germans in the aftermath of VE Day.

"Enjoy the war as the Peace will be savage".

RTE show, not Columbian marching powder.

Thought that was pretty good, Adian Gillen excellent as Haughey (& I was ridiculing him earlier today as a brutal actor as it happens).  A lot of it is before my time but Lenihan (presumably Brian?)is coming across as a major balloon. Tom vaughan Lawlor excellent as per normal.

General discussion / Women & Weddings - WTF?!
October 02, 2014, 07:55:13 PM
Her cousin's wedding tomorrow, so it was: Hairdressers Tuesday night, False tan last night &
Nails tonight, then it's back to the Hairdressers & Beauticians in the morning.

Bonus - for the first time ever - she took the car & got it washed today.

Standard stuff in this era of w**k I'd imagine?

General discussion / Housing in NI in the 50s query
February 06, 2014, 08:38:28 PM
Had a random conversation with my mum today that came round to housing discrimination in the 50's. She was telling me in response to Stormont' s discriminatory policies the Catholic Church in the area helped fund and build houses in Armagh (St Brigid' s Hill). All the work was done by volunteers and the houses sold at cost price to families with the greatest need (guessing having kids was the main criteria, but you also had to be able to pay for the house).

Have to say this was the first I've ever heard of this (I did A Level History too!), was this unique to Armagh or common across Nl in that era? Did I Mitch too much school?

General discussion / Snooker Shoot Out
January 25, 2014, 07:06:40 PM
I've turned it over previously and not bothered with it, but the format is very watchable. Their own version of Cricket's 20/20 with the PDC's pissed up punters. Doubt it will reinvigorate the sport to previous glories tho.

General discussion / Tour De France 2013
June 26, 2013, 02:01:31 PM
Off to France on hols tomorrow & hoping to take in a stage, prob going to miss most of the TV coverage this year.

Was looking at the betting last nite & the race for Yellow & Green are 2 non events betting wise.  Only bet i've done is for Thomas De Gendt (Vacansolieu) to finish in the Top 10 @ 6/1. Cavendish unbackable for the opening stage, i'll have an EW bet on Nacer Bouhanni of FDJ @ 17/1 for an interest, he's been having a good year.

General discussion / Best Metal / Hard Rock Albums
February 08, 2013, 06:11:31 PM
I was watching Sky Arts Classic Albums (Metallica's Black album) & I thought Hetfield wasn't overly complimentary about & Justice for all, thought it a bit cheeky as i would rate Justice better than Black tbh.

Other favs in the genre - Thin Lizzy, Live & Dangerous & a Ramones best of that i have, which is just superb, i've had it 10 years+ & it's always in the rotation.

General discussion / Scam?
November 16, 2012, 08:00:40 PM
Went online to that tv-links.eu to watch something. Something popped up locking the computer, saying my computers been locked and i have to pay £100 to unlock it, Police e-crime unit?, lists stuff like, terrorism, porn, gambling that this computer could have been used for.  Had to force close laptop & it was still thete when i restarted it. Says i've 2 days to pay it or laptop is bucked?

General discussion / Norn Iron - Soccer
November 14, 2012, 09:51:55 PM
How much money do you think Chris Baird was paid by some dodgy gambling syndicate? Comical misses. Guess NI know how Portugal feel, kicking in match all night & little to show.  Thought the commentators were getting a bit 'johnny foreigner' near the end.

Have to say Norn are very easy to watch, lovely style of football, much better than thon other shower, give me the scour watching them.

Young Ferguson looks a fine prospect.

New show started in Channel 4 last night, a bastardised shooting stars, but was very funny in parts. Took the best bits of shooting stars (recreating Bits of tv shows) and ran with it. As With all things V & B you'll love it or loathe it.
