Well our last manager wasn't exactly known for his genteel demeanour on the field of play.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

QuoteDon't know much about his management/coaching attributes but he was a mad lunatic on the field

Well his off the field antics last week against O'Mahony's were just as mad. Seriously if you have managers "taking on" opposition players selectors etc that's not going to impress anyone never mind how his interview went.

How long will this deferral of the appointment be likely to take? any ideas?
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

Looks like another week at least.

That would make it look like O'Brien is not a shoo-in

Won't be announced now till October according to the CB.
If it is O'Brien it is certainly not giving the impression of a ringing endorsement!
A bit odd since Leitrim & Cavan managed to get their manager sorted quickly.
There is also the possibility that the CB are looking to see if the finance can be gotten/sponsored/approved to bring an outsider in....(Pete McGrath maybe??)
The biggest oddity here is that the full list of nominees was never released to the public, unlike most of the other counties - so IF McGrath is parachuted in at the last minute there may be some issues since it appears the clubs never nominated him.

The story doing the rounds is that something during the interviews was proposed and has given the CB something to seriously think about.
It's a good sign though as this is a critical appointment for Meath football at this stage.

Heard Andy McEntee is the fav to ge tthis job and while he was a bit on the inflammatory side as a player and is still a bit like that as a manager, he seems to have done well recently as a club boss - far better tactically and with man management than his over trusting/easily convinced brother Gerry - who has tried his hand at this lark too.

Hear that Eamonn Barry isnt far off the mark either but for me Mcentee woul dbe worth a go, maybe a bit soon for him though. will be Meath manager some time in th enear future.

I was thinking about it recently, and if he could be prised away from his work in the financial sector, the best man to be meath manager would be imo Davy Nelson. He was the main man at O'Mahoneys when they had lost a lot of their top players and still kept them competing (and winning) championships.
shrewd man and has his teams well drilled, disciplined and v fit.

Heard that myself - Why he'd want to go for it again after how he was shafted the last time??

Don't think McEntee would have the temperament for it. If he loses the head at a club QF game and when his instructions to his players are to "let him know you're there" or in more colourful language when the ref and linesman are standing next to him and then act surprised when his man is sent off for lamping his marker I don't think he'd hold the head in Croker in front of 50000 screaming dubs.

Heard some gas stories when he was campaigning for his brother in the last election that he got some reaction on the doorsteps from lads whose paths had crossed over the years!!!

Have to say I'm not that keen on any of the men that seem to be in the running for the job.

This is the word on the wire after the interviews
Have you heard who his trainer is? Apparently he has someone from Derry or one of the Ulster counties as trainer but can't find out who.

Naw - he had his shot and screwed it up, can't see that happening.

I see according to Bells O'Brien in the Weekender that Luke Dempsey is now favourite   :o
With his uncle Eamonn still down as second favourite.
I think personally that the appointment may have been delayed because O'Brien was the front runner!
Will the decision be made by the time of the meeting next Monday??

Hmmmm, Luke Dempsey, wouldnt be my choice, its been a strange one, so far we've heard, Eamon O'Brien, Andy McAntee, Luke Dempsey and Pete McGrath are all "favourite" for the job.

In other news Mennolly group have renewed their partnership with Meath in a deal worth €250,000 according to the Chronicle. Here's hoping they get their money's worth in the next few years.

their 'moneys worth' is tied up in all the land they have bought in south meath on the dublin borders that are awaiting conversion from green zone to construction / housing permitted areas.

menollys are a longford outfit and also paid for dempsey in longford for the past 3 years.

they are trying to garner favour in meath and the co council, planners and politicos by sponsoring the county team
they dont care about how they do.

'uncle' eamonn is not far away rom re-appointment from what I hear.
Andy mc has a chance and dempsey as an outsider would be attractive - if someone pays the money as he aint cheap

A very reliable source informs me that Dempsey will not be getting the job. Some want a certain man from the north, while there are others who believe they should not be going outside the county.

A rumuor doing the rounds is that decision will be delayed until after the Senior final as the NOM manger is well in there!
