l would advise a few lessons to begin with, gets you up and running plus you a little music theory can get you a long way.

Start with acoustic, better in the long run cos when you lift an electric its wee buns.

Been playing a few years now and it does get easier, practice, practice, practice..

Few fave riffs to play.,,

Joan Jett - l love rock'n'roll.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabamha.

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze, man.
Midnight to Six..

This site here sends daily emails with hints and tips.  they do start off with the basic essentials, giving you info on play numerous chords, reading tabs, picking etc.  sometimes they throw in the odd song, with an accompanying video showing you how to play it.

A few lessons at the start may be a bit of a good kick start but its more fun to actually do it on your own.  there are loads of really easy songs to play which add to the excitement of it all.

Wonderwall was one of the first ones I ever learned,

Good Riddance - Green day is another

Knocking on Heavens Door

www.ultimateguitar.com is pretty useful for getting chords for songs.  there's usually a variety of versions using different chords for each song as well

That part is half the battle. I can footer about with slide, but its like everything else, once it required a bit of work, I buggered off. I even tried the dobro.

Havnt played an electric guitar in years. Its actually challenging to play the damn thing and only make the noise you are trying to make. Its so much easier on an acoustic as every time your hands touch the guitar strings you arent setting off extra noise.

Hardy whats wrong with stairway.... ;)

Tune it to Open G, stick some superglue on the tips of your fingers, break off the neck of a Budweiser bottle, stick it on your wee finger and away you go.  Instant slide action!

Nothing much Puckoon. It's just repetition - I'm fed up listening to it and listening to about 60% of the population saying it's their favourite song. You probably know that many guitar shops have a sign saying "No playing Stairway to Heaven!". They're fed up with it too - nearly everyone picking up a guitar seems to start with it. And of course many of them can't play.

Why the superglue? I wont be using a boken bottle, I have a steel slide. I can only play simple stuff on it like the riff to Bad Obession by Gn'R, would love to be able to play In My Time Of Dying by Led Zep or anything of Rory Gallaghers Irish Tour,

In Instrumental the music shop on the liffey theres a sign up on the wall that says
"do you ever get tired of hearing Enter Sandman, Well We f**king Do!!"

Niall Quinn

I'm really enjoying playing rhythm guitar to the Stones, with my particular favourite being 'Get Off Of My Cloud':

I got caught in the moment a little and lost my e-string, so be careful.
