Kanye West's mother has died at the age of 58 after complications resulting from surgery.

Kanye West with his mother, Donda
Dr Donda West died in Los Angeles as the result of complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure, according to the BBC, which cited her publicist, Patricia Green.

The 30-year-old hip hop star's spokesman said: "The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief."

West is believed to have been in London filming a video for his new song Homecoming when his mother died.

He has made no secret of his admiration for his mother, often bringing her to parties and awards shows and made reference to her on all of his albums.

On his 2005 Late Registration album he raps: "Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I'm so proud of you / Let me tell you what I'm about to do, Hey Mama / I know I act a fool, but, I promise you I'm goin' back to school / I appreciate what you allowed for me / I just want you to be proud of me Hey Mama."

Although widely known as the mother of Kanye, Dr West had a 31-year career as an English professor, eventually chairing Chicago State University's English department before leaving academia in 2004 to help manage her son's career.

In May she published the book Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star.

WTF is Kaynye West.

Kayna West is the western part of the village of Kenagh in Longford.

Is he some bling merchant from the US singing about his hoes and bitches?

It's certainly non-GAA, that's for sure.

this is all over the news* here. Basically she had had heart problems for years and wanted to get some cosmetic surgery done- face lift, tummy tuck and breat reduction. After being turned down in a number of places due to the heart condition she got some guy to go ahead with the surgery and she died during it. By all accounts an "awesome" lady who excelled in her career (not easy for a black female in academia in the US) but it looks as if she made a poor decision at the end...

*when I say news i must apologise, there is no tv news in the US. There is a great financial news network (bloomberg) but everything else is entertainment information with snippets of human interest stories "and by the way we invaded Iran and nuked them good. God Bless America and no place else"
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

I started this topic, in jest, at the RIP craze that i have found to be prevalent on this board. I think when the alcoholic busker in Omagh died and had a thread devoted to him was the final straw.

new devil

F**k you really are the biggest tosser on this board  :D :D :D :D

Balboa

Get that rentboys c**k out of your mouth there Devil, thats a good lad.

balboa, you are old enough and big enough, but id suggest taking that kind of language off the thread - i cant imagine it will remain once the mods get a look at it.
The thread about arty g didnt need to be mimicked - some local posters from the area were kind enough to let some of the rest of us (who dont reside at home anymore) that one of omaghs most famous sons had passed on. I fail to see your problem with it - its like any other thread, if you dont like it just dont read it.

Kindness there 5ive Times. Id try and help the homeless vets over here, but 60$ would be a bit much for me, Id just buy them an extra burger or something if I was passing a fast food place.
Its kinda amazing how popular these poor folks are becoming. I just googled that fella there and its a picture of him surrounded by school kids - I hope their intentions were good. When Arty G was alive (back in my school days) some of the abuse he got from guys I went to school with was unreal - now it seems to be the done thing for the kids to put together a collection for him. Bit sad really, he could have done with some more respect when he was living.

I didn't start the Arty G thread as a joke.

Arty G was a familiar face about Omagh for over 30 years. Busking outside SuperValu / Northern Bank.

There are several buskers about Omagh, but Arty G is the one that everyone knew and liked.
