Frank Dawson goes for Fermanagh job.

Not much debate on Fermanagh thread as none of us have ever really heard of him I think. Don't like the sound of the reports on here though, but why is he constantly referred to in the papers as "the highly-regarded coach/ex-coach of...."?
If he's in for the job fair enough but if he's up against Malachy O'Rourke he has no chance

The county board will go for O'Rourke if he wants it ExiledGael, and as i've said we need a local man IMO. O'Rourke has been very quiet, a good or bad thing?

I think it's a good thing from his own point of view.
O'Rourke wouldn't even discuss the matter with anyone publicly until Cavan Gaels had won the club championship. They won last Sunday and by all accounts he met the county board during the week. Looks from the outside as if this is what has been holding the whole process up from the start and the county board were willing to look a little silly and bide their time until the man they wanted would become available.
The county board actually deserve credit if this turns out to be the case, as they've been getting a hard time from all corners, especially Bradley in the Herald.
Hope it ends happily now and O'Rourke is willing to take the job

Yeah it's not that long until the McKenna cup and i think O'Rourke teaching in Enniskillen will have a much better insight into club football than Frank Dawson could ever have. With Belcoo hammering Teemore today I think a few of their players could get a chance next season.

I really hope Malachy O'Rourke gets the job. As mentioned by Gaeil InisCeithleann he'll know Fermanagh club football very well and he'll probably be able to get the best out of our limited resources. I was really pleased to see Belcoo win the league today. They're a very young side and they play a very attractive brand of football although I'm not sure if any of their players are ready for intercounty football just yet.

Didn't say anything bad Southdown, this time.  I really hope you win tomorrow because I know the passion you have for football in the 'stone.  I just have no time for your manager, as you know, and after hearing how he got rid of Cheetah and Hugh Trainor during the year, just adds to my dislike of him.  These two men have been staunch stone men over the years and I would have thought they should have gotten more backing from the club rather than a mercenary like Dawson.

seems like a solid choice that should be accepted by fans and players alike.  Probably the first player from the Ferm teams of the 90's and beyond to be given the job and its hard to beat having a local man in charge.  Division 3 will not be easy though.  I'd settle for an Ulster Championship though! lol

An Ulster Championship, the Holy Grail for all Fermanagh fans. Will we ever win one? I'd settle for promotion as well this year, the players simply aren't there to win the Anglo Celt.

Looks good. Some people hide behind the fact that we've not got the talent required but I totally disagree. This is arguably the most talented team we've ever had, as our results in the last five years show. I'm quite optimistic under O'Rourke that we will give it as big a push as possible. There's nothing wrong with keepers or defence, just a reliable partner for McGrath at midfield and a few scoring forwards to nail down and we can really compete.
Fair play to the county board for holding out and getting their man at last.
