Just to kick this up again. The NFL and NHL are the second biggest competitions in the GAA and yet so much of it passes without a second of coverage.
Kildare were in Div 3 last year and I never expect much, but Div 2 as a whole is barely getting a look-in. Kids consume so much through screens and highlights, and  it's a massive issue.

How can Clubber rock up at every game all summer and then when it gets to this game you have one camera and 90 seconds of highlights and that's it. Even a very basic thing on GAA+ YouTube.

Kildare v Offaly was a Saturday and there wasn't a single clip until TG4's GAA 2026 did a decent package on Monday.

Everyone is raving about Barry McNulty's scoring for Leitrim but that seems to have come from a streamer or a local crew.

Look at this about Match of the Day...

Traditional linear viewing of the Saturday and Sunday evening highlights programmes had declined by 770,000 to 6.88 million average weekly views last month compared with December 2024 but MOTD has gained 1.52 million viewers by making highlight clips available on its website and app at 8pm on Saturdays for the first time.

Fair comment CS. I don't think anyone would disagree with you.

Even if they did a separate Div. 1 - Div 4 show. Be easier to track.

I'd like a review show (like TG4) on a Monday night which goes into more detail of games and then a preview show for week-end games on a Thursday night.

Its a joke. League of Ireland stream 500 odd games throughout the season between the 1st, 2nd and women's divisions (which costs the same per year as GAA+) and the GAA barely stream any. I don't know why they can't just let Rte, BBC and tg4 choose which games they want and stream the rest on GAA+.

Baile Brigín 2

Because in general the amount of sport on, and quality thereof is declining on Irish TV.

The LoI set up their streaming service because RTE violated their TV deal and showed feck all games and stopped showing European games entirely. Virgin bought the rights and are showing a game a week and RTE famously announced games last year apparently completely unaware they didn't have the rights anymore.

Every sport has major problems with RTE coverage in particular.

I remember RTE used to have a couple of hours of highlights of everything on a Sunday. Basketball, athletics, hockey and so on. They stopped. They are showing less GAA, rugby and soccer too. You can't rely on them.

Point is, we do not have to rely on them, but there is no real GAA policy of covering the gaps.

I'm sure there is a market, if the LoI can stream at a profit so can the GAA. But how far down the grades does televising games become silly?

Define "silly". The GAA should want to promote its product. There are different scenarios, owing to Louth not having a decent ground, Louth v Tyrone is sold out, people cannot go even if they wish. Derry v Cork would involve long travel and accommodation is not easy to get in the way it was in the past. Perhaps Antrim v Waterford or the like would not be popular.

Anything in the league, especially if punters can't get tickets is worthy of a stream.

I'm more thinking club and underage stuff. Not every game is entitled to a camera and you could lose your arse on it very fast if you tried.

At least RTE have selected highlights tomorrow. That's more than soccer get.

Captain Scarlet

There was a time when the GAA were less keen on TV as they wanted bums on seats, but with GAA+ and the other streamers run by or in conjunction with county boards they seem to be changing.

Clubber did most games in Kildare this year at all grades and still gate receipts were up 200k. Granted the new stadium allowed for a much better experience, but Clubber coverage built up a buzz and allowed neutrals to keep an eye on their group opponents.
It also allowed clips for social media and one of the local papers did a weekly vodcast and they had those clips too.

Not everything needs a full production with all the bells and whistles, but cameras there allow for greater promotion. YouTube is the way to go and they may as well do it themselves.
There was sleet and snow in Newbridge for Kildare v Derry and some people just wouldn't be fit to stay out in the elements. It was a mad game with heaps of incidents and the Derry fans esepcially were left with our local radio crew - who they rightly said are biased!

Watching the Sunday game and sometimes you may get 5 or 10 mins highlights. They have a full recording of all games that they show highlights of.why can't they put the full game up on rte player, you tube or any platform so people can access them.🤔🤔

That's commercial reality. You can't stream highlights until after the highlights show. You can't stream head to head with live games.

Thats the problem with the GAA. Meant to be an amateur sport. Rules like that shouldnt exist.
