Is the Northern GAA really offering gaelic games to our protestant neighbours

"battle for hearts and minds" what the hell is that about. Sport is not some popularity contest where we have to get everybody to play it. Especially if it means, changing the whole ethos of the organisation.

I'm afraid it is a "battle for hearts and minds". Look at the number of primary schools in rural areas that are being closed and teachers who cannot find employment because of the low birth rate in the North. In 10/20 years time if we do not want the GAA clubs to fold in these rural areas then we need everyone playing, be they catholic, protestant or otherwise. We cannot be complacent and need to plan for the future.

What exactly do you consider to be the ethos of the GAA and where do u consider this ethos  came from?

To be honest, I'm getting a bit peeved with all this - if they don't want to join and play our games - no problem - we didn't need them years ago and we certainly don't need them now !
All this PC shite drives me mad !

NAG

Have to say this is the biggest load of bollocks ever.

IMO the southerners havent a clue what they are talking about on this topic so there is no need to sniping up at the wee six with your PC crap. Hiding behind your Dublin gutter press, this is a non story and is only being used by said gutter press and the Belfast Telegraph to bash the GAA. The same kind of people that were lambasting the GAA for not opening croke park to cater for two professional organisations who havent a pot to piss in between them.

We have a strong healthy and growing organisation, we dont need to be going chasing 'Billy' who was at drumcree not 10yrs ago. I know i exaggerate there but believe me there are more protestants out there who wanted to shoot burn and maim GAA men and buildings than there are who would like to participate.

If they do come along and want to join by all means without bias or sectarianism against them, but i for one wont be going into Harryville or Carrick to ask them.

Mack the finger

Whats interesting is the coverage its getting.

A Catholic player that gets abused because of his religion on a soccer field in Northern Ireland - no coverage, because its
accepted its going to happen, day to day life in Norn Iron, institutionalised sectarianism etc. Of course there's work being done on this, as other members of the board have pointed out. Maybe its because there's more catholics playing the sport

Not that that makes this case any less deplorable than it is.

Right then off you going and form your own association because i'm, sick of Northern playing the  southerns dont have a clue trump card. We should be actively looking at ways too encourage  any new members not being so closed minded like your self and Stay goalside of your man that you want the GAA to be a catholic IFA
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

You wouldnt know what a proper bigot is until you have seen a loyalist in full flight, the pope the catholics, the nationalists anything to hate will do.

We dont want an organisation of our own all we want is people who dont understand the problem to stop telling how it should be up here. Until you have lived here day to day and know the ins and outs of the society dont pretend to preach and tell us what we should be doing to more warm and cuddly and all inclusive.

The GAA is a 32 County Organisation and is also Democratic and majority decides etc.
If some ultra Nats in the North dont like it -fair enough but we cant have a load of separate rules and standards for the 6 North Eastern Counties.
Come out from behind the barricades lads  - ye'll be surprised how nice the world is out here.

No one is saying be  "warm and cuddly and all inclusive" but once again whenever  this issue is raised the responses from parts of the north is "f**k them" "No one is stopping them joining" and people like you will never even consider considering what would have to change.
