Quote from: tbrick18 on Today at 11:05:12 AMAfter week 1 matches where I watched Meath completely outplay Derry, I said I thought they were in for a good year. For me, the strongest team in Div 2 and best placed to challenge the likes of Kerry. Physicality, dynamic, and potent when it comes to 2 pointers. Deserved promotion and I think will have a long summer.
After that, nothing between Cork, Derry and Louth. Derry didn't do enough to earn promotion so can have no complaints, but I also don't think it'll do Derry development any harm to be in Div 2. We're bringing in younger players and expanding the panel, whilst still being competitive in matches - for me that's really good prep for championship.
Cork with consistency could be good - we'll have to see how they go. The 20-odd point hammering by a Derry side that went out tamely to Meath and Louth raises an eyebrow on Cork.
Louth seem to be improving game-to-game and from what I understand have players to come back in. You'd wonder if they are dependant too much on Mulroy though, but he's an awesome baller. Leinster I think is tee'd up to be a really good provincial championship this year.

Offaly and Kildare can't have too many complaints I think.
Tyrone have been awful and I don't see much improvement over the league. There doesn't seem to be much quality coming through and Matty Donnelly is their only stand out player at the minute. Defensively shocking. On current evidence, it's going to be  a poor season for them. And if the likes of Donnelly retires after this year, they could struggle to remain in Div 2 next season. It really is at that level right now I feel.

Someone mentioned the quality of referee's in Div 2 - I have to say that at least it was consistent. And leave it at that.i

.
I am in complete agreement with you. And looking at div 2 next year it will be as competitive as div 1 and will do any of the teams in there no harm, particularly Derry.
And the last line ? Yes 100

Quote from: Dunneroyal on March 22, 2026, 07:51:10 PMWell job done. No real surprises apart from it was probably Meaths worst overall performance of the campaign .
And won't be near good enough v cork next week. Now I think there was a lot of nerves , + 10 on handicap. And trying to be too clever and too fancy at times.
That been said an easy victory and no injuries that I saw .
I do have a few observations on the campaign overall.
1, on what basis was Tyrone and to a lesser degree Derry so prominent in everyone's opinion of running away with the league? Neither team finished in the top 3 never mind get promoted, Derry hadn't won a game in almost a year, Tyrone while getting into semis last year were relegated beforehand and always looked a little suspect. And Tyrone can count themselves lucky that there wasn't a stronger team than Offaly in the division.
2, and this is a general point. The standard of referees in division 2 is abysmal, I mean it's gone beyond a joke , today for instance long ball into Offaly player, clear advance mark if he put his hand up, he didn't, he continues and puts ball wide. Ref calls  advance mark anyway while Meath players try to tell him he didn't call it, eventually linesman informs ref that he is wrong, as Offaly player has ball to kick point he tells player to give him the ball and hands it to sean Brennan.
That is just one of many I could point out.
If we don't have a basic standard of officiating at games it makes a mockery of the games. I pity teams in division 3 and 4 if this is what is best available for div 2.
Anyway that's my ranting over. I've said it a hundred times, these Meath lads need silverware to push them to the next level , so that's what we need next weekend.

Offaly player should still have mark with advantage rule.
So why then did the ref allow the linesman to say no ? And give the ball to Brennan ? After awarding then taking away the mark. My point is about the standard of refs. Which is worse I have ever seen this year.

Yeah ref was wrong there. Have some sympathy though. They are enforcing too many rules at once. Count steps, bounces, players in half and see where a player is kicking a ball from all at once.
