Would have been some outcry if he was from Armagh or Tyrone

Tbf though gough would have sent him off without hesitation if that had been the case

Gough needs to go as a ref, over the years he has been getting worse. He is the most inconsistent ref there is. Always making stupid decisions.
Wasn't it him sent of 4 Tyrone and 1 Armagh player for abit of pushing and shoving that time? Clown of a ref, but in fairness the linesman made the mistake yesterday not him.

Can't be letting high profile players run about punching lads, serious risk of serious injury with blows like that. Disgrace if nothing is done about it, as blatant as ive seen in a long time.

Donegal by far the better side today.
id be more wary than ever of Kerry after that though.

didnt see the incident so wont comment on it but can anything be done about it given Murphy was yellow carded? Assuming thats what you are talking about?

nevermind, been answered above

it was, that was funny though. Seriously though, that was mental that day too. Poor ref overall IMO

Oh it was brilliant! more recently giving Jarly Og a black card for nothing and sending TK off for being punched.

Loves being the centre of attention.

Great, championship isn't even here yet and the persecution complex is already being let out for air.

Quote from: smort on March 30, 2026, 07:57:40 AMIs Murphy going to get away with this? Is there anything that says decisions can be looked at retrospectively?

The whole country has seen him box the head, and ribs, off Dylan Casey and because Gough gave him a yellow, nothing can be done??

Would be an argument for VAR

I'd say an argument for rescinding the rule that says that a yellow card closes the matter.

Cant blame the linesman, Gough clearly indicate a stiking motion when booking Murphy so he was aware of what he done, a strike is a red not a yellow. He is an awful ref these days.

The GAA stance on incidents like this has been pathetic over the years, cant see it changing now. Unfortunately it is going to take a serious injury in order to change it. All this talk about sportsmanship, respect etc and they allow players to get assaulted on the pitch.

I think once given a card, then that was that. Maybe I'm wrong?

But the closed fist to the ribs was just as bad. Referees will be all over him now in championship with all this hulabaloo now abut it. About time.

I just wish a manager would be honest. Could Mc Guinness not just say yeah, poor attempt at a so called tackle? Was a red card. End of.

Murphy been a tr**p for years on the field and the refs worship the ground he walks on, can't see it changing unless there is a media pile on, but he's their darling so I doubt it.

Any other player on the field would have been sent off for that. He got away with 2 incidents against Down last year. It'll be interesting to see will that decision catch him out later in the year, a soft red because the refs this weekend got a backlash for letting him off.

trueblue1234

Could they not go back and say yellow was for the rib punch. But we're now giving red for the second punch as we missed that. Job done.

Thats a good shout. Two strikes, but only addressed one of them.

He's been a dirty brute for years with those closed fist "tackles".
Some footballer, but some of this stuff he gets away with is scandalous.

Sensible approach.
But they'll never do it as it means they would be saying publicly the ref made a mistake.
Any of those hearings that players go to, the committee starts from the pov that the ref did everything right and that his decision can't be challenged. They look at technicalities or mitigating circumstances rather than mistakes.
Its the wrong approach imo.

I'd be absolutely intrigued to learn what the right approach would be.

Don't disagree on this, but his Linesman and the 4th Official let him down a bagful. Happened right in front of both of them and they still let him dish out a yellow. Poor all round.

The linesman was Conor Lane who was looking directly at the incident. He's another awful referee.

Not many good ones about!

Wasn't following the D4 final that awfully closely but Falloon is a decent enough ref at club level, allows plenty of contact and takes absolutely no shit in terms of mouthing he will crucify you moving the ball up so everyone knows where they stand
