Quote from: lurganblue on April 20, 2026, 03:46:46 PMStarmer getting it tight again over the Mandelson appointment. Appointing the lad before he gets a security check isnt a good look.  Then Mandelson fails the security check and Starmer tries to say he wasnt aware.

How many times did he have to be sacked, by a previous Labour Prime Minister, before it became readily apparent to another Labour Prime Minister that Mandelson was a complete spiv, who wasn't to be trusted & shouldn't be allowed near the place?

Asked "should Keir Starmer stay or go?", 64 per cent of people said he should go and 18 per cent said he should stay. Of those who voted Labour in 2024, 46 per cent said they wanted him to go now.

He'll be gone in May after the local elections and Labour take a thumping.

Who they take the thumping from will be the interesting bit.

It's more likely to be the Greens than Reform

Labour are estimated to lose 1900 seats.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/04/09/two-thirds-of-voters-want-starmer-out/

Reform is predicted to gain as many as 2,260 councillors, with the Greens gaining 450. The Conservatives are expected to lose more than 1,000 councillors.

Telegraph, are you seriously quoting them?

They've gone full on Reform lately.

The Conservatives aren't right wing enough for them.
The Telegraph is very strong on UK politics and UK economy
I would ignore the op eds.
It's much better than the Grauniad and the Belfast Telegraph.

Reform are on 26% so they should win more seats. Tories are on 16 I think.
Greens are on the left so in competition with Labour. Reform have an easier run.
Sports coverage is good too

Love their GAA pages.

Mad that an English paper doesn't cover a sport not followed by 99.9% of English people.

I wonder is there a cricket board in India saying the Indo's political section is rubbish because they don't cover the IPL?

The difference between US and British politics

UK prime minister knew a man who knew Epstein. Opposition call for the PM's head.

US president was a close friend of Epstein and partied with him on his island. But that's okay.

But they aren't interested in exploitation of women. Mandelson and Windsor are in trouble for giving away classified economic information

Being gay, Mandelson probably did not exploit any women.

In the UK it probably suits Labour more than the opposition for Keir Starmer to be ushered out quickly. He's sleepwalking Labour into a hung parliament / dozens of MPs out of work. Hence we're looking at a strange situation whereby the opposition have to pretend to push, and Labour have to pretend they're not getting behind the shove.

It should be similar circumstances in the US, but for whatever reason, GOP aren't overly bothered about what's coming down the line.
