Players to avail of course, the £500m integration package isn't getting spilt down the back of the sofa its going into back accounts

Tax dollars paying to coalesce something that works perfectly fine and is greater than the sums of its parts in its current form, its a tour de force of collaboration and co-operation, soon as you integrate its going to become a bureaucratic nightmare with a side of 'quotas' and resentment

The GAA will never step away from its amateur ethos, well as regards paying county players a wage. The brown envelopes for managers, jobs for players, mileage etc will continue as is.
The cloak and dagger GPA should have been put out to pasture a decade ago.

County players are getting paid.

Explain how they get paid..? They do not and will never get a 'wage'
The grants. Which the GPA are lobbying to increase. Is this news?

A yearly grant which is what, £100 a month give or take, and mileage.. A million miles away from pay / living wage

They are getting monetary reward. So no longer amateur. If you can't see this as a bridgehead, that's on you.

Much like professional students v amateur students like myself.
You might like a headline grabber, but the reality is, players are most likely out money, which does scream amateur at me. Look, boots and gloves a lucozade sport or two = a Guinness 0.0-bridgehead

Plenty of golf and tennis pros end up out of pocket. Doesn't mean they are amateur.

What is your definition of an amateur sports person?

What is your definition of a professional sports person?

How many years have the grants been in play and how many years has the GAA been on this slippery slope into the pro world? 32 versions of the 4 pro rugby teams will definitely work, how could it not??

What's that word from Shawshank, yes, obtuse... You're being that

I won an €80 voucher at a golf open last month.

Semi professional I am.

Always dreamed of this day.

I'm not suggesting a full time pro GAA is feasable or on the cards.

I am saying that once the elastic concept of amateurism was allowed via the grants, if someone else pays them it's not pay, then obviously the GPA will push for that grant to be increased. Which they are.

So how much remuneration is in question has magically become irrelevant. If outsiders pay them a million each they are still amateur.

It shouldn't have been allowed.

But if someone gave you €80 a week to golf are you still an amateur? In fact if that voucher was cash, technically you aren't anymore.

Give up BB.

You're entitled to your batshit crazy thoughts, but as pretty much every government and sporting authority in the world can differentiate between a professional and an amateur, and none would describe GAA players as professional, you're not entitled to your own facts.

I haven't described them as professionals. Deliberately.

But they aren't amateurs either. Money changes hands.

The grants were clearly an opening gambit for something bigger.

We are in a situation where if, say, Magnier decides to gift every Limerick hurler €75k a year they would still be amateurs and the GAA would accept that.
