I don't think you can say there's been any real slippage in quality this year. The biggest change in the Premier League came when Mourinho arrived and basically transformed the standard it took to win the league. It took United until Mourinho's 3rd season until they were fit to match and better that standard. Liverpool now look like they may be capable of getting to that standard themselves as well.
