Quote from: Captain Obvious on September 29, 2026, 01:28:03 AMRory Grugan great servant after a 15 year career with Armagh Seniors. Retires as a Minor and Senior All-Ireland winner.

best of luck to him. An Armagh legend

A brilliant player.

James Morgan has also retired, they both won a minor All Ireland in 09 - Andrew Murnin was also on the team that won that minor All Ireland.

Rossfan

Happy retirement to both.
I believe that's 8 of the AI winning squad now departed the County scene.
2026 the year of the 9 Cups

Hadn't seen anything about Grugan going, very sorry to hear that. Good luck to him & James Morgan, Morgan had a serious amount of injuries, surprised he lasted as long as he did. I hope Murnin doesn't go! Id have him at FF for a year, bomb it into him

No I don't think Morgan was part of the All Ireland panel - injuries I assume. He had some run of them, from early in his career and kept coming back.

Soupy, Grimley, Jemar, Rian, Nugent, Higgins, Shields, O'Hanlon, Rowland, McPartlan and now these 2 off the top of my head although the door is obviously open for returns for the likes of Rian.

naka

Fingers crossed Rian / Niall grimley back alongside Ben crealey
Really hope Andrew Murnin stays on.
For me Rory Grugan was essential to our success over the past few years and he will be sorely missed .

Ive seen people say McMullan is the successor to Grugan. Not so sure about that

A few years away as Mc Mullan still young , Grugan had the smarts which comes with age .

Different player but can see some similarities. McMullan is a superb footballer imo.

tonto1888

McMullan is superb I agree but he wont be the new Grugan in the next couple years anyway. Grugan will be a miss

Absolutely. Long term he probably is as close as we're going to get in that play maker role, obviously can do some things better than Rory and some things nowhere near as well. Rory along with Forker and Rian probably the best kickpassers on the team and all badly missed last year.

I thought Morgan had retired years ago. When did he last play for Armagh? I presume he got AI medal as on extended panel?

Don't think he was on the panel in 2024. Featured in 2022 in a great battle with Walsh in Croker. May have played abit in 2023, honestly can't remember. Brilliant player and fella but was plagued with injury. Hope he gets a few years more with Cross.
