Of course our midfield will be a rotation of Glass, Rogers, McEvoy and Higgins in 2027 but in my last post I was talking about the evolution of our team for the next 4/5 years.

Unless the new new rules come into play next year where the kickout just needs to go beyond 13 meters we're going to struggle. Even in Ulster Armagh, Donegal and Tyrone are massive around the the middle and we'll be playing second best. Dan has potential and I agree needs a run of games but you can't compare having a good 2nd half against Newbridges midfield with Meaths, everyone knows that the bridges Achilles heel is size.

Yes can 100% see Glass as a potential full back as he gets older he's a great reader of the game good under a high ball and a great tackler.

The 2020-2024 Gallagher era squad that went from D4 to winning D1 is now over we have to build the new team around McEvoy, Forbes, Sargent. The league needs to be about giving meaningful game time to the younger lads not 10 mins here or there (C Higgins, Young brothers, etc) and I'd also be happy staying in D2 if it means developing the squad.

Very harsh...after winning two senior county titles in a row and getting to a third final.  ::)

Derry Optimist

In fairness to all supporters of the GAA in every County, I think all County Boards in conjunction with the Management teams in very code and at all age levels should publicly announce the names of the players and Management teams selected in all panels for the incoming season.
The fact that so many posters in Derry alone are so keen on selecting their personal choices for the 2027 season is indicative of the fact that there is a tremendous interest amongst loyal supporters for doing so. With the increased standard of football thanks to more expansive play under  the new rules and some very good club championship games, there is an expectation that there is a great potential for having an excellent Derry Senior side in the near future. All players also deserve this publicity.
Whether we are referring to the existing regularly starting County players from last year's panel or new projected starters like Ryan Scullion,Ryan Mulholland, James Murray, Martin Bradley, Shea Downey, Patrick McGurk, Padraig Haran, Oisin McWilliams, Ryan McEldowney, Matthew Downey, James Sargent, Niall O'Donnell, Donncha Gilmore, Cahir McMonagle, the Young brothers, Oisin Doherty, Conall Higgins. Tommy Rogers, Cahal McKaigue and Ryan McNicholl, it does not matter. It is only when you put down the names of those new players together that you realisee vast numbers of talented players which are in the county at present.

Derry Man

For all the talk about lack of quality in our championship by the look of that game tonight our top 5/6 would walk the down championship

Our top 5/6 would give Edendork there fill of it too.
Alot negativity around Derry football probably just based on county results but I think its in very good place.
We're maybe small bit slower to react to the new rules but if truth be told they were set up to counteract a system we were totally committed to.

I'm not saying this is the best team but some of the names being pointed out as being missed have been very average over the last 3 months.
Toner (injured I believe played 1 game maybe 2 and was ok)
Cassidy (Struggled to impact in a Bellaghy team that was playing fairly well)
Baker ( Good game against understrength Swatragh, went missing for the remainder)
Gilmore ( Big athlete but the game is played with a ball)
Mc Monagle (Nice accurate player, doesn't seem to be able to work out a defensively acute team)

Shane, Gareth Mc Kinless obviously start if fully fit and on form. But there are definitely lads starting to put pressure on for positions.

We have to move away from " remember what these lads have done for Derry".

Sentimental stuff won't win all irelands. Imagine we had players with 5/6 all Ireland medals they would get playing forever.

I agree 100% with this.

Many of our current county senior players now seem stale/jaded - we saw it in the last 2 seasons and it was very evident in this years club championship.

In that list I'd include:
Baker, Glass, Cassidy, E Doherty, Toner, N Loughlin

Loughlin has been our most consistent player since returning from injury, always gives it everything, how you can view him as stale/jaded I don't know. Baker isn't an elite county player but gives everything, and Toner always puts in a shift
We are not getting back to the top table with Toner, Laughlin or Baker. These lads give 100% every time, agreed, but to win championships that's a given for the whole squad.

So 3 men who helped get us to the top table, one of them our more consistent player now need culled , get ye
