Quote from: Point-to-Point on July 29, 2024, 02:43:26 PMSpeaking of promotions, was looking at the hurling tables, and see East Belfast and Kilclief are second and third of Div 2 of the hurling respectively, behind Ballycran.

Since Ballycran can't go up, the match between the two tonight is a defacto promotion decider.

Be intwresting to see how either of those teams gets on in Div One.

Are you sure about whether a team in second place can go up even if the table toppers like Ballycran in this instance can't get promoted?

The reason I ask is that we were in Div2 a few years back and I'm almost certain our secretary at the time said that we needed to top the table to get promoted. We didn't have a team in Div1 then.

Both Clonduff and Newry struggling to fulfil fixtures in Div1 doesn't bode well and in general too many "blue" results not draws in this league with two cancelled for tonight which seems to be a case of some teams picking and choosing the games they play...

There needs to be more of a punishment for not fulfilling the fixture and if a team can't travel then they should also lose the points of the home game against the same opposition..

Fairly certain.

Castlewellen finished second place last year, behind Ballycran, and went up.

Believe this is because Ballycran already have a team in Div One, and you can't have the two teams in one divison, as opposed to your case, where yous didn't have a team in Div One.

Agree with you- something needs to be done about teams not fulfilling fixtures.

Point-to-Point

Fair play to East Belfast. Some going for them to reach Division One after four tours of existence.

Both the top two teams in Div1 didn't field over in Liatroim so if I was Liatroim I'd be pretty pissed off about that as that's not enough to develop a team.
They'd be better off in the Antrim leagues and working their way up and put a team in Div2 in Down as they'd a big panel over in our place in their last league game at the start of July.

Are many clubs, particularly the lower division clubs, going to struggle to field Friday & Monday league games at the business end of the season and also field in the PR/R championship on Sat/Sun? 3 games in 4 days for some in already struggling teams. The 2 weeks break is pointless if we come back to an overload of games just before championship. Needs reviewed

Truth hurts

The first round of the minor championship features some intriguing matchups. ;D

I was talking to couple of people from different clubs and think there'll be a few forfeits.. Those teams who are battling promotion/relegations are a bit worried about game Friday/Monday/Friday so don't want to risk injury's in the Saturday.

Agree about the two week break, clubs will just training that Friday instead of a match so isn't a break really

Two week break is great. Lets players and management get away if they want without missing games. Fri / Mon / Fri isn't as bad as it is perceived. In fact in the case of 4 Division 2 clubs it is Wed / Fri / Mon / Fri. It's a generally very well run fixture calendar so these things shouldn't be too detrimental to the overall schedule.

Maybe though just maybe, round 1 of the RFC and PRFC will mainly see actual reserve players in action.

Quote from: SuperRed on July 26, 2024, 10:41:35 PMDivision 2's promotion battle is looking really exciting now with all eyes on Saul and Bryansford's game. Will Saul finally get over the line, or is there another twist? RGU had a massive win in Bryansford and have blasted their way back into it... An Riocht and Saval will be very pleased with their work to date, although will be keen to keep some form of momentum heading into quite an open intermediate championship. St John's on a bit of a roll. Looking good to stay up if they can get another win (very much so if it comes against Liatroim). Shamrocks going down because there is no way they win their last four games and Longstone lose theirs. Rostrevor have done enough from their good start, but need to beat Shamrocks and put the matter finally to rest - then they can plan for championship and getting their injury list down a bit. Longstone will be disappointed with their season, but a win against Liatroim will keep them out of trouble in the re-fixtured game... It looks unfortunate but very probable that the relegation fight will be non existent in the last two weeks so all eyes on the top three.

Or not...

3 PRFC games off already

Johnnysboys

Looking very likely that Bryansford despite their dominance in most games this year will now not get promoted from division 2. Saul and Downpatrick are both in the driving seat and remaining fixtures look favourable.
What has happened in Mayobridge? Managers gone mid season?

They will rue their results against their promotion rivals... Best performing team I've seen this year, but one win and three losses against D'patrick and Saul may do the damage. They may be relying on Liatroim away at RGU to do them a big favour - as they will possibly need a win to stay up, but if RGU could have handpicked a game to finish with, this one would have been high enough up the list. Saul have been brilliant this season and look set to finish the job.

Truth hurts

There were so many reserve games not played this weekend. What can be done to resurrect reserve football?

Probably the amount of years Truth has been on the board 😂
