They had a similiar league to last year, and beating a Divison 3 and 4 team in the championship is nothing to shout about.

You can only beat who is put in front of you and they are not up to the standard of the top 4 but neither is anyone else.
There are so many ways to say your county is not good enough at the moment. Whether it's the manager or the tactics or the conditioning or the experience or the players or the matchups or whatever you are having yourself. 

I think Meath , Armagh , Cavan and Ros are around the same level as Galway so it will be interesting to see who kicks on from there.   
Kildare, Tyrone, Down and  Laois  were very disappointing this year and Monaghan seem to have gone backwards.

Sligo were close to being relegated to Divison 4 this year, I don't think there was a big improvment from last year. 2 Championship wins against Wicklow a Division 4 team and Limerick div 3 team, were good but it's a stretch to say they done really well.

They used to regularly lose games immediately to very average sides in the qualifiers. Constantly for years on end. Sligo used to beat them regularly.

They've actually won a few games in the qualifiers for two years on the trot now. Beat Sligo up in Sligo.

Whatever way you slice it, it's an improvement on what came before. Long way behind Mayo of course but Mayo are a top 3 side and have been for a few years now.

Not saying they are brilliant but the last couple of years have been better than the previous ones. At least they won some games. Winning is an improvement over losing all the time.

I don't know about the two mentioned. There were allot of strong characters (players wise) in Galway football who would not have taken kindly to a change or being ordered to doing things differently. Football changed in 2002 when Armagh won their AI. Open skillful football could be punished by tactical disciplined teams. Galway never bought into this! Kerry initially did not buy into it either, but had to out of necessity of winning AI's (it's a necessity in Kerry).

Walsh had a pretty strong Sligo panel at his disposal in the early years of his regime and totally blew it. He didn't get the best out of the players he had despite massive resources being put at his disposal (which the county is still paying for). Someone above quoting "getting to two connacht finals" as some sort of achievement!!!! Excuse me but I didn't see any medals being handed out for those appearances. He is not a good manager and would be a bad appointment for Galway. Who did he manage before or since?

To my knowledge none of the club teams Kevin Walsh has managed within Galway have done much at all. The only reason he is being mentioned is because it's obvious the county board won't spend the money required for a properly professional management setup.
This means it will have to be someone from within Galway that gets the job.
And candidates within the county are thin on the ground to say the least.
It's not because of his amazing managerial track record he is being touted.
It's because of the above reasons & the fact that he was a fantastic All Ireland winning player for us who is highly respected as a result.

I wasn't quoting it as an achievement, losing isnt an achievment but he got Sligo to the finals nonetheless, beating Mayo and Galway along the way in 2010 Connacht championship

They lost by 1pt to Roscommon in 2010 Connacht final , how was that totally blowing it? Donie Shine had a great day from the frees. Beaten by 2pts by Mayo in 2012 final in Castelbar, a game Sligo played well in and could have won, e, Mayo lost by 1pt to Donegal in the All Ireland final that year.
