Both matches ruined by horrible weather and a horrible pitch at the Hyde. Brigids battled against gale-force wind and rain in the first half but had no real wind advantage in the second half thanks to the schizophrenic weather. Hard to read much into the result but Westies should provide the best possible test for Brigids in Roscommon this year.

And county-level refereeing. You gotta love it. Or hate it with a vengeance. Probably the later.

Admitting it is the first step.

The pitch in the Hyde is poor, down to the lack of clarity over ownership of the pitch. Hows that white elephant that is Eleverys McHale Park? Mayo's debt levels are bound to be a huge source of concern. Not long now till the troika are at the door of McHale.

Considering the heavy rain & two games on it i thought the pitch held up fairly well & at least it was cut today plus the lines panted. So a draw you fancy for the final then as Brigids have only won by one point in their last two games.  :D

Any Galway posters want to discuss their weekend games? Corofin v  Salthill/Knocknacarra looks like tasty senior county final.

Tasty but a bit dull. Corofin seem to be there every year. Milltown had a great chance today as Corofin were reduced to 14 men for most of the game but like they often do, Corofin found a way to win.

In the other game Salthill managed to hold off their rivals from the other side of Galway city. St James might become the best team in the city sooner or later but not quite yet.

True it can get dull with the same old but Corofin remain your best bet to win the Connacht title &  Ian Burke is massive addition to their forward line.

True. The one thing that Corofin always lacked to go all the way was maybe one or two more quality forwards. If they had those they would be hard to stop even outside Galway.

They'll have to return to Kiltoom for the final if all goes to form. Would be some occasion to end the year on.

Not really. Winning a few matches probably eases the pressure.

Sligo SFC semi-final
Tourlestrane were far too powerful for Curry winning by a surprisingly big 0-14 to 0-4 margin.
Having dominated the opening half Tourlestrane went in protecting a 0-9 to 0-1 lead at the break.
Curry improved slightly in the second period, but they never really threatened a Tourlestrane side who had strong displays from Eamonn O'Hara and Brian Egan. Tubbercurry will be Tourlestrane's opponents in the Sligo decider.

Galway SFC semi-finals
Holders Salthill/Knocknacarra were inspired by potent attackers Sean Armstrong and Seamie Crowe as they defeated St James' by 0-13 to 0-11 in a city derby at Pearse Stadium.
James', with Eoin Concannon highly effective early on, led by 0-6 to 0-2 before Salthill/Knocknacarra reeled off eight points without reply either side of half-time.
During that stint Armstrong and Crowe, who played youth team football with Robbie Keane at Wolverhampton Wanderers, were key contributors.
James' did rally in the second half, but Salthill, managed by former Galway goalkeeper Cathal McGinley, did enough to qualify for the county decider.
Armstrong scored 0-6 (2fs), while Crowe also registered four points from play for the Seasiders.
Despite the first half dismissal of Alan O'Donovan Corofin were able to dig out a 1-12 to 1-9 win over Milltown at Tuam Stadium.
Milltown's Michael Martin was in flying form, but Corofin were 0-6 to 0-5 ahead at the turnaround.
Then a Gary Sice goal proved to be the decisive blow as Corofin held on and they now face Salthill-Knocknacarra in the county final.

Leitrim senior final will be St Marys v Mohill.

Ross, am I right in assuming the only county the Ros champions have to visit is Leitrim this year, any other ties are home fixtures?

At senior level yes. At all levels the Connacht champions will face the Munster champions in the All Ireland series & i think its Ulster champs turn to travel to London.

Sligo Update.

In the SFC final neighbours Tourlestrane and Tubbercurry meet on October 6th. Tourlestrane seem to win it every second year and have loads of experience to call on as well and some good young emerging talent. They'd have to be favourites. Tubbercurry have won the most senior football titles in Sligo but haven't won the Owen B Hunt Cup since 1991. They have been very impressive throughout this years competition and everyone expects an exciting and close final.

The IFC is down to the semi finals which will take place on September 29th, with two West v. North games. In the first semi the Drumdliffe/Rosses Point (beaten in last 3 finals) take on Castleconnor. Calry/St Joseph's take on Easkey in the other semi final.

Sligo will have no representative in the Connacht Junior FC this year as all the clubs partaking in the JFC are club second teams. Town teams St Mary's and St. John's face off in the Junior A final, while St John's (3rd team) play Tourlestrane in the Junior B final - both games next Saturday. A fair achievement for St John's it must be said.

They have been going well at schools level for a while too. Roughly what proportion of the school's players are with the Tubbercurry club? (and not with nearby clubs/Charlestown etc.)

St. Attractas schools team would be made up of players from Tourlestrane, Tubbercurry, Curry, Coolaney/Mullinabreena, Bunninadden, Cloonacool and some from Charlestown (2 from this years winning team were Charlestown players). First 4 teams named would have majority of players.

Mayo are down to the final of Intermediate. Kilmaine v Kiltane. Kiltane would be favourites, but Kilmaine have been there or thereabouts for a number of years, this is their first final in quite some time however. In the Junior championship, Ardnaree are back in the final again. I cannot see them losing this year. They had their 'get-out-of-jail' match v Ballina B. Cill Chomáin and Louisburgh are in the other semi-final which ended in a draw the first time out.

The Senior Championship is at the quarter-final stages, due to be played the weekend 5th/6th of October. Castlebar Mitchels would be my favourites for the Moclair Cup, yet I spoke to a number of Ballintubber fans at the recent league match between Knockmore and themselves, they reckon that the 'Tubber won't be beaten, in Mayo. Hard to blame them really.
Inaugural Football Championship Prediction Winner.

Syferus

Surely COC is gone for the season after the AI final and weren't they saying Dillon needs surgery on the stomach injury when the season ends? If they were out or even just one of them Ballintubber's confidence seems misplaced. It'll take something special for the Mayo champions to beat Corofin/Salthill in the Connacht semi given the run-in they'll have.
