the proposal to shift cardiac patients from belfast to dublin where they will in effect become private 'queue jumping' patients ie they will take priority over southern patients national health patients already in the system. this is wrong. the proposal stems from the lack of use of these facilites in belfast the obvious solution is for belfast to take patients from the HSE waiting list. the reason o reilly is keen is because once the belfast facility is closed he can rip the arse out of the various trusts in nordieland like hes trying to do with private health insurances and the gimp kenny can give the money to germany

How is that the solution? Will that not result in HSE patients jumping the queue over NHS patients? And how far do sick babies have to travel from Cork, Kerry, Waterford etc?

If one unit on the Ireland is the answer, then it makes sense to position it as centrally as possible, relative to the population.

Poots is a smart man and has a very difficult portfolio. He is not afraid to tackle issues head on, and there is no easy answer to continued budget reduction. Plus I think he is much less bigotted than his cohorts.

Not sure I could agree with that. He failed in 2 previous Departments due to his inability to act strategically DOE over Review of Public Administration the issue being that he wanted to go against the Boundary Commissioner over which parts of Castlereagh should go to Lisburn and in DCAL over the Maze Long Kesh issue. Promoted  above his ability if you ask me
