Have seen a lot of people even on facebook giving praise and glad chelsea won, these lads would all be liverpool, man u and gooner fans. Very strange, i think alot of EPL fans are very jealous as their always hearing how the top 2 in spain are so much better, which they still are.

I'm not a fan of any team (outside celtic) , but last night made me sick. We had training so i only seen the 2nd half, i know people talk about the great discipline and defence etc, but it was disgusting. It may be tiring, but it's not that hard to stand and defend your own box with 9 men and just boot the ball away. Chelsea were hammered over 2 legs, if barca had of scored first over the 2 legs and made chelsea come and attack, what would chelsea have offered up? very little i'd say.

Talk about underdog etc doesn't wash, not when they bought torres last year for 50 millions lids, hardly poor wee underdogs.

Plus i never usually bet and i threw lids on barca last night so i'm extra pissed off.

The best thing about GAA ( and alot of other sports too), is that the best team on the day usually wins ( except armagh in 2005). Soccer is what it is i guess, chelsea were right to do what they did, especially with 9 men, i just wish they could have been sickened at the end by a late goal

You are spot on there, the Utd lads in particular are still sore about how Barcelona dealt with them in the two finals and have turned into cheerleaders for the Premier League.

I'd imagine that Chelski are practicing their penalty kicks today

I don't know Madrid are very direct and Munich will be at home - I just can't see how Chelsea will hold them out with a back four of Bosingwa, Luiz, Cahill and Cole, to put that into perspective only Cole would make the Arsenal back 4, there is a serious lack of discipline in Luiz and Bosingwa. Chelsea I think will have to go for the jugular.

Chelsea will now not finish top 4 but a victory in the final would be serious bad luck on Arsenal/Newcastle/Spuds.

John Terry won't be :o His last one at Moscow was dreadful. I'm sure he's glad that he is missing out this time round

I'd say that sentence has a lot to do with that nonsense of a rant.

To be honest, not really, i just threw it in for extra measure. What's nonsense about the rest of it, you want me to give them some credit?
ok then credit to chelsea for defending well and getting lucky, and taking their 3 chances

That word there made your post into a rant. They're professional sportsmen and are well entitled to win any way they can (inside the laws of the game). In most other sports (team or individual) the best team doesn't always win especially in a knockout tournament. Credit for giving Chelsea their due, yes they were extremely lucky but sometimes sh*t happens.

I watched the game and all I could think of was that the fears that people had last year were starting to come true, teams are starting to copy Donegals style of play.
I know Arsenal, Tottenham etc... fans probably were cheering for chelsea last night but I cannot fathom why. If chelsea win surely that would do 4th place out of a champions league place. If I were a Newcastle/Arsenal/Tottenham fan I'd be cheering anyone but chelsea.
On another note Valdes isn't really a great keeper, he's good, but definitely not good enough for barcelona. The only reason he concedes so little is that the other teams usually son't have enough of the ball to take decent shots

I'm picturing Guardiola in his hire car heading across the mountains to Glenties to consult Jim McGuinness about tactics over a pint of stout.

Orchardman was just wondering where you stood on George Foreman battering Ali round after round just to get suckered punched?
I am gutted Barcelona lost as I love watching them play.  But Chelsea went at it with a game plan, and fair play, with a lot of luck it pulled off.  They would be mugs to go toe to toe with them and get slaughtered.
However I agree with the sentiments, that chelsea have spent hundreds upon hundreds of millions and are reduced to using tactics that west brom would use to beat Barca.  I suuppose it tells you how good Barca are, and how some big spending teams havent quite ot the best approach.

I think Chelsea's win shows again the stupidity of Ferguson with his approach to last year's final, especially as Mourinho and Inter showed how to do it in 2010 with an inferior team and his United team being made look like amateurs in 2009. You're never going to beat Barca in a loose, open game.

True, especially strange when United kept it tight in 2008 and beat them 1-0 over the two legs.

Mucker, you are right, boxing does allow for a suckerpunch that can cause a total upset, and we have to accept that. But funny enough, it was boxing and tennis that the guys on tv3 were alluding to last night when they said in any other sport the team  or individuals) that dominated so much would easily win. Of course in boxing, it it goes the full 12 rounds, a dominant fighter will win easily on points. But anyway, soccer is the way it us, and sometimes it can be a great game, i'm not here to try and change the rules

Yes, i was disgusted, a lot of other people are not. I did say at the bottom of my post that I didn't expect chelsea to any diiferent, once they were going through on away goals, they did what they had to do.

By the way guys, there is a difference when i mention the best team winning on the day. Eg, mayo knocking out cork last year, cork were league and all ireland champions and were the better team leading into the game, but mayo cleaned them up, were the better team on the day, and i was delighted to see them win. That's what i love about an underdog winning.

This is different, this was the best team by far over 2 legs getting knocked out, which I don't believe happens much in GAA. But that's simply as their are higher scoring set up's with goals and points. I'm not annoyed to see barca beaten as such, as they have won plenty, i just would have enjoyed it more if it were a proper underdog victory as in Benfica or some team playing giving them a proper rattle and getting through with some luck

AQMP

I hope Di Matteo tears strips off that glory hunting gimp Torres for being so far up the pitch when Chelsea needed everyone behind the ball

Everyone keeps telling us how poor the PL is and how it is the worst it has been in years. Once again the PL provides one of the finalists for the CL so it could not be that bad?
