Clare v Tipperary
Sligo v Tyrone
Armagh v Kerry
Laois v Kildare

Onlooker

I did not get a chance to watch TG4 today, but it looks like a very good win for Tipperary.  Looking forward to watching the tape tonight.  2-16 to 0-9 sounds fairly impressive.  This was Tipp's first win in the Senior Championship for quite a few years.  Congrats. to Mairead Morrissey and her team.

Football round up

by Jackie Cahill

TYRONE bounced back from their Ulster Championship disappointment with a comprehensive victory against Leitrim in Sunday's TG4 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship round one qualifier at Shannon Gaels, Cavan.

The Red Left Hands, provincial champions in 2009, hammered the Westerners by 6-22 to 2-9 as cousins Lynda and Cathy Donnelly scored four goals between them.

Cathy scored a remarkable individual tally of 3-6 while Lynda netted in the 25th minute as Tyrone, beaten TG4 All-Ireland quarter-finalists last year, went on a real goal spree.

Tyrone lost to Armagh in the last series of round-robin matches in the Ulster championship and were anxious to atone for that disappointment as they faced into the All-Ireland series.

At half-time, Leitrim found themselves 1-4 to 4-12 in arrears as Cathy Donnelly hit two first half goals for Tyrone, with Linda Donnelly and Aisling O'Kane also raising green flags.

Two minutes into the second half, Cathy Donnelly completed her hat-trick of goals before O'Kane, who contributed 2-3 in total, scored her second goal in the 52nd minute.

Leitrim's top scorer on the day was Áine Tighe, who was superb during her county's successful Division 4 National League campaign.

Tighe, who scored 1-4, scored a 38th minute goal while Eimear McGlade hit Leitrim's first half goal in the 20th minute.

Tyrone will be joined in Monday's round two qualifier draw by Kildare, who cruised to a comfortable 4-13 to 1-9 victory against Down at Fingallians, Swords, on Saturday evening.

After a tight opening, Kildare moved 3-5 to 0-6 clear at half-time before Siobhán Hurley bagged a fourth goal for the Lilywhites early in the second half.

Down's consolation goal came with the last kick of the game as Emma Mulhern converted a penalty.

Senior Football Championship Round 1 Qualifiers

KERRY and Tipperary recorded impressive victories in round 1 of the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers on Monday before the winners received tough round 2 matches.

All eyes were on Mayo following their recent reinstatement in the SFC but the Westerners bowed out in their first match as Kerry scored a 0-12 to 1-08 victory in the first match of a double-header in Banagher.

Cora Staunton scored 1-6 for Mayo but it wasn't enough to defeat Kerry, who had a six-point haul from leading scorer Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh.

The first half was closely contested and level five times before the sides went in deadlocked at the interval, 0-5 apiece.

Staunton netted two minutes after the break with a smart finish but Kerry responded in brilliant style with a run of six unanswered points to surge 0-11 to 1-5 in front.

That scoring burst provided the platform for victory as the Kingdom held off a late rally from Mayo to clinch a famous one-point victory.

In the second game at the Offaly venue, Tipperary produced a brilliant attacking performance to crush Meath by 2-16 to 0-09.

Full-forward Patricia Hickey scored 2-4 while former Allstar Edel Hanley kicked seven points for the Premier County.

At half-time, Tipp were eight points clear, 1-08 to 0-03 as Hickey notched 1-4 in the first half.

Elaine Duffy offered some resistance for Meath with a seven-point haul but Hickey's second goal, set up by impressive substitute Gillian O'Brien, settled this tie as a contest midway through the second half.
