Has anyone ever watched this series that is on now and again on RTE 1?  Best show on tv by a mile.

It goes through taditional crafts in Ireland and the processes involved.

Episodes include "Saddle Making", "Boat Making" and the best of all "Thatching".

Some great lines in it, brilliant characters and a very good insight into the work that went into things that now can be done so simply in a big factory, bar thatching of course.

Denn Forever

Its a great show.  A very gentle half hour and I enjoy seeing the cars of the day, the Mk 1 Escorts, the Fiat 124s, 128s, VW Beetles etc.

My favourites would be the Candlemaker and the Thaching or where they cut the reeds and have tea and sandgwichs in the field.

They say fashion is cyclical, but I hope some of those fashions never return.

"Johnny McGrath from Mulrankin. He's what you might call a 'thatcher's thatcher'."

"Fine day thank god"

"Have you ever been up this high before, wha?"

Great show, very saddening to know so many of these amazing crafts are now long forgotten.

Denn Forever have you have ever seen the Ned Gavin one? There's some great old footage of Ballinagh in it.

It amazed me the time and effort that went in to these things. Practices that maybe took them days or weeks that could be done in minutes now.

The wheel making one is brilliant too (its maybe part of the cart making). Hand made, hand painted, absolutely unbelievable to see the work that went in.

The Donegal Carpets episode was deadly too, making rugs and carpets bit by bit, to perfection.

It was indeed JohnDenver and SLK. Was a great way to round off a great weekend. Probably the quietest we were for the whole weekend!

Ned (RIP) was the last of Ireland's coopers and brilliant one too. I'd say you would know his grandson Enda.
