Wasn't it JS who was penalised at a free in the cup which resulted in a score, which lost them the title, for simply walking to a defensive position but the ref decided he was  too close to the free taker? Was that ref ever assasinated?

Correct  - its mentioned in the documentary. Not too sure what happenend to the ref but didn't seem to hold Jim back!!

MELBOURNE has been rocked by the news that another of its greats has cancer.
Sean Wight, closely linked to president Jim Stynes as part of the club's Irish experiment, is undergoing treatment in hospital.

Wight, 46, who played 150 games for the Demons, received news last week that he had several malignant tumours.

He is undergoing chemotherapy with the strong support of former teammate Stynes, who himself is going through a public battle with cancer.

Stynes was shocked to learn of the news.

"Who would have thought he'd end up basically like me," he said.

"I was shocked. I just couldn't believe it. I thought to myself, 'This just can't be happening'."

He ran across Gary Buckenara's mark, a clear offence. No-one in the Melbourne camp disagreed with the umpire's decision and Stynes got a lot of grief for conceding the penalty, which made an extremely difficult kick eminently scoreable. Cost Melbourne the 1987 Preliminary Final.

Hope Sean Wight make a full recovery too, the former Kerry minor from Listowel, thought he spelt his name Sean Wright, he was a great minor in his day if its the same lad.

The same lad Mike. He was a brilliant fielder of a high ball. I hope he gets though this. Horrible coincidence him and Stynes suffering from the same disease and they such brilliant athletes.
