How are you getting to the start. If you are taking the Staten Island ferry then you will get a look at the statue of Liberty on the way over.

I have run it 8 times, that is the only marathon that I have run so I can't compare it to anything else but I always had a good experience even the time I had a crap time.

I'll just be looking to finish! Getting the midtown manhattan bus with my mate. He's a 2.30 marathon runner so he'll be finished hours before me 😂

For views, Top of the Rock is good, albeit it'll probably be fairly busy. One Vanderbilt is a new (and very tall) building next to Grand Central which has great views from it's viewing decks. A lot also doing The Edge, an outdoor deck that sticks out of the building with glass floors, across in Hudson Yards (west 30s along the river). And of course if you're doing the 9/11 museum/memorial, you can also head up One WTC to their viewing decks.

Tours, food etc, depends what you're into. Plenty of excellent restaurants, obviously.

Haven't seen this season's Broadway line up yet. Just went to Oh Mary though, which was hilarious. It's a spoof comedy, only very loosely connected to history, about cabaret-singer wannabe Mary Todd Lincoln, her closeted husband and his closeted secret lover John Wilks Booth.

Done WTC Observatory thought it was very good. We went in the early evening so we spent a good hour and a half up there so that we got it in daylight and then when I got dark was pretty cool too. Killed a bit of time drinking a few cocktails that where being sold. 18 bucks from what I can mind.

Heading on the Wednesday morning and then leaving on Monday around tea time so a decent amount of time. Has anyone any good tours they'd recommend? Id like to do a tour of Central Park or the likes of Ellis Island. Something that will have a few interesting stories. Don't think I want a rushed fly by tour of the city where you're only stopping at the monument or site for a quick photo. Looking to do the usual things like 9/11 tour, top of the rock, see a show. The Saturday is the day before the marathon so I'll be taking it easy that day and staying off my feet from about 7pm that night. Not a big drinker but will probably head out after mid town on Sunday night after the marathon for some food/drinks if anyone has any good bar/food recommendations.

my sister is married to a New Yorker and they would always recommend the Circle Line. I loved it when I went - it's a bit of a different perspective seeing Manhattan from the water
