i doubt utv sacrificed too much resources for gaelic games, so you can hardly lay full blame with Logie. I had heard about frank mitchell's exploits, is it true he won a hogan?

I always thought poor Adrian Logan was alright. That Championship show he did midweek a few years ago was good crack.

I noticed the name Frank McClorey at Full Forward for St Colman's in a previous final - I think it was 25 years ago against Maghera. Blaney and Spoofer were playing amongst other luminaries if I recall correctly.

Logie, as he liked to refer to himself, may not have been everyone's cup of tea but he did try to keep the flag flying for GAA activities. The one thing that always bugged me about him, and all other presenters on the station, was how he always reffered to soccer as "football" and real football as "GAA". As for our good friend Frank Mitchell-Mc Clorey, I have major doubts about any guy that has to develop a stage name like he did. Stage name= stage personality. He wasn't a bad footballer, GAA that is, not soccer, as decreed by the toffs inUTV ;D and played corner forward on a St. Joes College team that won The Ryan Cup in the early eighties.
UTV sports coverage and GAA content in particular will be poorer without Logan because the clowns that run the station think that sport consists only of soccer, rugby, motor cycling and hockey and anything that lies beyond Lisburn can be ignored. God help Norn Iron if they ever develop Long Kesh as a stadium cos the decision makers on the two regional stations won't even go beyond sprucefield to shop ;)

From todays IN:

Logan tells of UTV woes By Rebecca Black
24/04/09

Veteran UTV sports presenter Adrian Logan has claimed he has been "poorly treated" by the station as he begins his last day on the payroll today.

The Dungannon man has been given compulsory redundancy after 24 years with the company.

He spoke out last night after making his final appearance last week.

"UTV have been invited to discussions by my lawyers. Not only have they refused, they have actually ignored the invitation," he said.

"I think I have been poorly treated and it is now in the hands of my lawyers."

Logan, UTV's sports editor, has worked as a journalist at Ulster Television since 1985.

A familiar face to GAA fans, he was one of the founding members of the Ulster GAA Writers Association in 1988.

A UTV spokesman said it was their policy never to comment on individual staff

matters.

Thanks Mick. Looks like Logie got the fuzzy end of the lollipop alright.

God but boys are fickle.  Now that he's gone, ye're claiming him to be a big loss.  For years on here there was nothing but 'he'd be no loss'  I recall in particular sharp criticism of him being a yes man to the powers that be and getting slagged off for his cosying up to other sports with out criticism.  Frankly, looking from Dublin, I thought that he was a woeful 'follow the stars' type of presenter and irrespective of their loyalties, lack of talent gets found out sooner or later.  On the other hand have seen him do MC and he has been actually good, apart from leading silly party games
come disagree with me on http://gushtystuppencehapenny.wordpress.com/ and spread the word

slow corner back

I have to hold my hands up and admit that I used to enjoy the UTV programme ( end to end was it?). In Defence it was only because I could not pick up RTE and would not pay the Murdoch tax to watch it via sky so that was my only GAA coverage apart from going to the pub to watch matches. Whilst I am very fond of the pub there are only so many sundays the wallet/wife/liver will put up with it and club matches tend to interfere also. I am sad to see Logie go and fully expect GAA matters to be relegated even firther in UTVs analytical thing!!! >:(

.....yes, but he was dear to pay and not any better than Benny Tierney who's a hell of a lot cheaper!

logie did a good job of our gala evening a couple of years back. hope things work out ok for him.

Whats Adrian Logan at involving solicitors just because he's been made redundant - there are lots of more unfortunate people and families who have lost jobs over the past year due to the struggling economy. Its nobody's fault, every business needs to cut its cloth accordingly. Logan should be thankful for the years of employment and thank the UTV for giving him the platform to increase his public profile to enable him to charge the big fee's to compere club gala dinners. I'm sure over the years he done very well out of them.

Making a claim against the UTV doesn't show him in a good light and is just a reflection of the 'claim' culture in northern ireland, there no better than benfit fraudsters who have never done a days work in their lives.

I have to agree.  He had an easy enough time of it over the years.  Now he has been found out he is yapping  :D
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something

the green man

You two boys would know the hole ins and outs of the redundancy to be able to comment as such? There's obviuosly some sort of grievance, otherwise old Rumpole wouldn't be involved.
