Royals and Lilywhites to serve up fourth encounter

The Meath and Kildare teams who contested three memorable Leinster SFC games in 1997 are to cross swords again for charity.

The survivors from those games will come together at Ballinlough, Co. Meath on Monday, October 29th in aid of the Lana Devine Medical Fund.

Lana, daughter of former Meath start Jody Devine who starred in the triology, is currently awaiting a kidney transplant and is receiving dialysis treatment five times a week.

The re-match is being organised by Ballinlough GFC, Kilskyre HC and the Meath County Board.

The throw-in for the game is at 2.30pm.

A great cause and what better match to support it, I remember them games fondly, Meath and Kildare filling Croke Park on their own, for three cracking matches which had everything. Hopefully it is well supported as it should be!

Is there a way of supporting this other than going to the match. I can't go but would make a donation if I could?

Hardy

Didn't know Jody's child was ill. A good cause indeed and good point Darbyo - we can't all get to the match. The second match of that series was the best game of football I ever saw and Jody's performance one of the most towering exhibitions ever - he will always be remembered for his five (I think) points from ridiculous distances, after coming off the bench, to keep Meath in the game.

Louth Exile

I don't remember ever seeing a better super sub performance. Pity to hear of his child's illness. A good way to raise funds given that when you think of those games he is the first man to come to mind
