Flood Lights/Generators

Passed by a club in Longford the other night and they seemed to be training under lights powered by a generator of some sort?
Thought those days were over or do many clubs still use generators or dare I say it, cars lights!!

Depending on the particular floodlighting and power demand it can be cheaper to buy and run a generator than run the lights from the grid. There can often be large connection fees from NIE/ESB if transformers etc need to be upgraded to supply a new floodlighting system.

Yeah the grid can be expensive, I think the days of clubs buying the full lights are far and few between for now!
Curiosity got the better of me and I checked out some solutions
Shared access which was initially an FAI scheme, I believe they have opened it up to other sports now, involves a mast on your clubhouse roof for example!

www.sportslions.com/product-details.php?catid=5&pid=69 - they do a product called the iLite - an inflatable floodlight that comes in a bag weighing 10kgs - 6 cover half a pitch apparently, costs €499!
